I'm going to be shopping for a truck this weekend and just found out that Nissan has a 1K rebate. I decided to get a Frontier but don't know whether I should get the cheaper V4 or the more expensive V6? I've heard from many people not to get the V4 but don't know why. The truck will be used for moving purposes only, ie. purchase of refrigerator, washer, dryer, etc... and maybe used like that a dozen time a year. Otherwise it will be use primarily for commuting. What would you recommend? Thank you.
Warmest regards,
-Ben

It would be crazy for me to make a recommendation unless I knew your driving style. If you look at a vehicle as an appliance (a la Consumer Reports) and mostly use it for commuting, then the 4-cyl is a great choice. If you (like me) are an automotive enthusiast then nothing less than the V-6 will do. And an incredible V-6 is is, too. The VQ40 is a gutsy little powerplant--I dyno'ed mine at 222 rear wheel horsepower. It will run just fine on 87-octane fuel, and mine has returned fuel economy numbers that are very respectable for a 4200# vehicle shaped like a brick--16 MPG city and 21 MPG highway. No flies on the little 4-cyl--it's a fine engine, but give me the V-6 every time.

nothing like being able to stomp civic's on the highway or a hemi, your choice... nice powerplant with plenty of power for any application

In my opinion, I think the V6 is the way to go. Now, it's not quite the same but I had a '97 Ranger 4 cylinder and when I bought it, I didn't care about it being slow (which it was) but over time, I was noticing it's limitations more and more everyday until I traded it for my V6 '01 Frontier. The Frontier isn't fast either, but at least it has enough power not to get pummeled getting on the freeway. The Ranger was quite scary merging, but what can you do with 112 hp at the flywheel hooked to a 4 speed auto? (Another reason why I now love manual transmissions.)
Plus nothing beats having passing power to spare and 265 hp sure beats 150 hp! Or even the 170 hp my current Frontier has!
