The thing that stinks is that it was actually a quality car with a lot of good features and gadgets, despite it's portly weight. It just wasn't able to convince people that VW could produce a car that people should pay $66K and up for.

Like the Q45, it wouldn't be a bad used car to snap up in a couple of years.

The difference being that Q45s have an excellent reputation for reliability...and Volkswagens as a group do not.

The first year depreciation on a Phaeton is nearly 50%. It's definitately a great car to pick up used, if you can find one.

1) Not easy
2) Have fun waiting at the VW service dock (don't expect Audi amentities)

This is also a sign for Nissan to bring the new GT-R over as an Infiniti.....

Anyone who ever seriously thought the GT-R woudln't be sold as an Infiniti in NA was living in a bubble world.

The Phaeton looks nice, but I can't get over the rear design with the fat VW logo. It would have sold much better under another label...but there is already the Audi A8.

BTW...in terms of styling Phaeton > A8 IMO

The executives decided Volkswagen will focus on being a volume player in the U.S. market instead of trying to move up-market, Bode says.

Seems they might actually be coming back to their senses.

I don't care what anyone say. Badge or no badge, I'd love to own one. The interior is just so much better then anything out there.

Then they better start by re-examining the price structure of the Passat. 40 large is not volume territory when competitors with better reliability can be had for much less. In fact every VW, from the Jetta to the Toureg, is stretching the upper limits of the average person's wallet. The People's Car is a brand in search of people.

The People's Car is a brand in search of suckers.

Fixed.
