I've heard rumor that there is suppossed to be a turbo-charged version of the 350Z coming out in a year +. Does anyone know anything about this? From what I hear is that it will be pretty expensive.

Yes there is,
It will tentatively be called the Fairlady Edition and feature a widebody.
The engine will be a VQ32DETT w/ 550 horsepower and it will likely be offered as an early 08 Model year and no more than 10% of Z's made will be allowed to be this model
Now the bad part: As of now, while pricing is not fully decided yet, it does appear, it wont undercut the Infiniti GTR price at all.
When I first was told about this some months ago, I was hoping to buy, but this isnt possible now...
If it doesnt undercut the GTR at all, look for a $75,000 MSRP.
It seems this was a trade-off ,that while Infiniti won the , "who will get the GTR" arguement at Nissan North America, Nissan Division was allowed to have its own TT'ed Z , <but> it cant undercut the GTR.
Even so, interesting times are ahead, this hasnt made it into the Car magzines yet, so expect more Buzz.
As usual Freshalloy has the info first (we started posting a hint of this some months ago, but didnt want to give away all yet)
Hope this will spark some discussion of this new Nissan performance icon.

Isn't there supposed to be a base model Z that is dohc i4 turbo as well with a NA V6 Z for the midrange model?
I hope the base turbo will put down at least 250hp with comparable torque. I guess only time will tell.

It'll happen eventually. I doubt it'll be 75k, though and I would never expect any time frame, as of yet, (GT500 mudstain supposed to be out 6 months after the new model, supra concept was promised at the 03 toyko auto show, turbo version of this and that at this time blah blah..).
Anyhoo.. I think it's safe to assume that it'll be competing with the new z06, gt500, m3/m5 etc etc..
I really need to see all the 4bangers left to eat some dust; sti, evo, srt.

Yes I will post that seperately.

Is it going to be a new I4? I heard at a Nissan meet from the Sentra owners that Nissan is discontinuing the QR25.
Ideally it would be a turbocharged KA22DET with variable timing/lift, DI, dual stage intake, and all those goodies new Nissans have been getting, lol.

What's the point of it not undercutting the cost of GTR??
GTR supposed to be the showcase car for Nissan worldwide. this muddies things a bit.
Oh wells. Two Nissan models that could potentially munch on Z06 http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Still think I might be interested more in a GTR for our CDN weather. http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/wink.gif

This is some important information...
Are we keeping this hush and just for FA members?
I would be putting this on homepage of FA!
That would defienetly attract some interest to the site.

I am thinking about this right now.
Even tho the information is pretty solid, it wasn't given to us officially to disseminate.
When we get closer to launch maybe.

I wish your post was the answer as well.
For a long time, they were considering this solution, you psoted and I wouldnt mind if they changed their mind back to it.
An affordable special edition would be nice. http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
But unless I was delibertly given disinformation ,the information about the expensive TT is accurate and is currently what they are planning to do.
I double checked with my source too, since i didnt like the answer (when the flowerpot is in the window, we meet at the parking garage in DC. http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/wink.gif ).

hmm.. i guess the TT you mention is a different version of the rumored 450z (3 different models)? I guess 75k for a 550 TT is definitely worth a thought. i've been tossing and turning about how I'm going to afford the new skyline (i prolly will be keeping my z). If this edition holds true, it'll be an addition to my confusion of which car to get next http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Any idea if this new twin turbo Z will be related to the Skyline? And why would they have two cars of such power? Wouldn't the new Z eat into Skyline sales if it had a price and HP rating that high?
Sounds interesting though, first time i'd heard of it. A twin turbo Z was rly confirmed? If they could get that sucker down to 50somethingk and make it a Z06 competitor or a C6 destroyer thatd rock. But then you'd really h ave to wonder about the price. Apparently there isn't a single dealer around me selling a Z06 for under 90 grand.

Mad:
Lots of questions at once:
-Yes there will be some similiarity
-I explained in earlier post
-Probably IMO
-No vehicle will not be cheap or undercut the GTR by any significant amount of $$ . http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Have you seen pics of the wide body mockup or was it just a description? Just curious. Thanks.

thats interesting - i doubt they will discontinue the qr - it's a pretty good engine and worth another 3 years of production - what would be nice is some minor changes like a boost qr with a closed deck - that would really make a good engine about 260whp with 6 lbs of boost -

Actually if you think about it- Infiniti GTR will be built via limited production numbers – last time I check a total of 1500 unit in North America. That’s not a lot to satisfy others who will be eventually left out. A 350Ztt would make sense – with practical production numbers close to 450 horsepower similar to the Infiniti GTR however, the handling is where the GTR will shine.

I wouldn't put much faith in rumors until the cars are close to release. Although a TT 350Z would be great, I honestly do not believe it until I see it. But I can dream http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif

^^There's been a lot of talk that Nissan would go down to a 3.2 with a TT for the GT-R. The Japanese mags are also saying a NA 3.7 will power the next G. We'll have to wait and see I suppose. http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

No change on this as of yet.
Looks still like solid info, alas my source at Nissan has been let go, hopefully not in copnnection with this leak.
Info is still solid as even with double and triple checking he was positive no change in this info.

It just not making any business sense to produce a Z with 400-500 bhp and would cost as much as a Corvette. Z is a great sportscar but is no where near a Corvette in terms of look, performance, value.

Its supposed to be a special limited production Halo Car.
Power levels quoted exceed the number you mentioned.
As of 4 months ago that was tha actual accurate plan.
Z drivers would never consider a Corvette and Vice versa, so I doub tthey are in competion.
If the price was 20-25 k less I myself would be a likely customer.

As far as price goes maybe, yeah. But I do think that people consider both cars when looking for a new sports car. They are equal when you include the $$$ factor. More money gets you more power... but also less quality.
Take everything into consideration and you will find people with the ability to buy a $50k car considering a Z. For example (my dad)... he's going to buy a Z due to the 2 factors I mentioned. He is a corvette buff... but can't justify spending that kind of money for a car with a lesser quality of build.
