So how will this really compare to the upcoming Yaris, Fit, Aveo, Mazda whatever it is, and current Xb? The xb is supposedly pretty roomy and fuel efficient at the same time - sounds alot like the Versa. I think Daweoo, er Chevy, plans on redesigning it soon, don't think it was really that great to begin with though, other than price. Xb is too ugly for me. Fit sounds interesting, if we get the 7 speed auto here that is supposedly very fuel efficient, though i'm not thrilled with an auto unless it is significantally better than the Versa's 6 speed.

I'll be happy if this Nissan can really average 38 mpg. I do tons of highway driving and my old 300zx is quite bad going 75-80 mph most of the time. Any word on specifications like weight or acceleration? Hoping it'll be better than 10 seconds, hopefully 9.

I was reading in other forums issues that the price with a few options gets pushed into Mazda3 territory, also an attractive car to me. CR claims the Mazda3i got 42 highway mpg in their testing, despite claims i've seen on the forum it barely gets 30.

Also, being priced under the Sentra, will this still be larger than it? Nissan claims near mid sized passenger room. So far the Versa sounds fairly promising, let's see how it fares in testing when it comes out.

The ones I see around here don't look too small (I'm currently in China, they are also called Tiida here). I believe the Aveo is a smaller car by comparison. The cars of the same class is the Honda Fit. It's bigger than a Yaris though.

Thats interesting - do they look different being that they are made for China distribution? Take a pic and post one up

Exactly the same, but with E-spec lighting (China uses European lighting standards), and badging that says Tiida. Cars here are LHD.

There are many nice looking Nissan Teanas running about though. Only spotted 1 or 2 Bluebird Slyphy (same look as the Japanese and Taiwanese market Sentra. Don't understand why people in the US likes the ugly US version.)

this is just my opinion, but the Versa looks like ASS and i would much rather the toyotas over it any day.....based on looks (exterior and interior) alone.

I actually priced one out on nissan's site, and to get it the way i wanted (sunroof, sport package and convenience package) its a 17k dollar car with a 1.8L

I just don't see why someone would pick it over say a Scion TC? (i test drove one of those and even though im a big nissan fan (ive owned 3) the tc just seems like a way better bargain for the same price. (unless you want 4 doors that is)
it comes with most things standard that you have to add to the versa

Yeah i've driven a friend's tc and i was very impressed with its overall quality, and is pretty roomy inside. Didn't like the steering feel though.

The tC gets horrible mpg for a car in it's size class. Maybe this is where the Versa will shine vs the tC.

Comparing Versa/Tiida and the Tc is weird. 4 door vs 2 door coupe.

I'm mostly comparing it because of the price range/feature list.

If you compared it with an XB the Versa is _WAY_ more expensive

btw long time no see white bunny
its good to own a nissan again

Versa S $11,950-$12,950 base + $700(Power Package) + $605(dest.charge) = $13,255-$14,255

Versa SL $13,950-$14,950 base + $605(dest.charge) = $14,555-$15,555

Scion xA $13,270

Scion xB $14,570

...doesn't seem that far off considering the Versa is bigger than the xA and has a more powerful engine than both of them.

Well, i should've clarified:)

I'm comparing cars with cruise, power windows/locks etc etc

TC still is best bargain, but i digress.

Im just pouting because nissan is coming up short in the small car segment if you ask me.

It's a Camry engine in a compact car.

I wonder if there will be a "Versa SE-R"? Just jokin, :D

Well it seems like the Versa will have more available than those other cars speaking from a power standpoint, 120hp with standard 6-speed manual. The difference between the fit and the Versa/Yaris, will be Honda I bet will have abs/airbags, and most likely more standard while Toyota and Nissan leave options that take the car up into another cars price range.

I like the Versa power for its segment and features like blue tooth and smart key, but once its optioned it goes into new civic price range quite easily. Think I would go civic unless I just wanted a bare bones car with no options.

Same thing goes for the new Yaris, to get a rear folding seat in the sedan, you have to go with the S model, brings you into the Corolla segment without even trying.

Considering the Civic doesn't even come with AC standard in its base, I highly doubt the Fit will have more features than the Versa besides maybe curtain airbags since the Versa already has side airbags standard...

After looking at Tiida/Versa and Fits running all about, the looks of the Tiida/Versa is much more welcomed. The sedan Fit has a weird look. Like of frumpy, or droopy butt look.

OTOH, Tiida/Versa has an oversized and rounded hump. Also, I'm starting to like how they look in black. The Strawberry metallic red doesn't look that good.

thats not fear, you get to see this stuff way before we do...

How does the TIIDA/Versa look compared to a Civic 3dr or VW Golf?

I think the Versa sedan looks very similar to a Toyota Echo or 1st gen Prius :/.

It's also a lot bigger inside... from the intro " It has 25.6 inches of rear knee room – almost the same as Maxima." 6 feet long on the inside, and 94.4-cubic feet for the hatchback and 93.9 for the sedan.

The interior space itself will garner tons of praise from the press in this category. All the preliminary reviews say the inside is HUGE. Think about it, if you had to drive one of the smallest cars on the market, do you really want it to feel small? Plus, I think interior space is one of the reasons the Focus has been C&D's ten best.

At least nissan met the consumer halfway on the ABS/side airbags...side airbags are standard, curtain airbags are not.

so with best in class power and interior space, I think they have a winner.
