I guess the the new Z mag's got a section where they test out all the plenums (I couldn't find it at b$n bookstore). It appears that the AAM gave the worst performance? I think it was in my modified mag, where the z gained 13rwhp. Man, sometimes it's confusing to read such drastically different reviews of the same product... just ordered AAM.. I guess as long as I get some gains.. when I go FI, I'll prolly swap it out with kinetix ssv or sum'n...

Is the AAM just a spacer or an entire plenum replacement? I know Fred has an AAM spacer. What about the others?

The AAM is a angled spacer.

My Dyno on 7 psi Pulley before bolt-ons: 339whp
After AAM Spacer, Hiflow Cats, AAM Y Pipe ( and retune for the Mods): 361 whp

But not on the same Dynojet, so these numbers are not written in stone and I did them all at once so cant link hp to a specific bolt-on.

Oh my poor ol back...
I just installed the AAM Plenum spacer. I still haven't fully tested it out, but I think it might be a bit louder? or is that my popcharger... I'm installing stuff one at a time, in hopes to 'feel' the power gains. I definitely felt it with my popcharger. Fred, that's some great gains! Hopefully all my breathing mods will come to life when I finally go FI. http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/cool.gif I wonder if I can install a plenum to go with my spacers? maybe just the upper plenum??

paemt, aam is just the spacer.. it gives you, roughly, about the same gains as a lot of plenums, but cheaper.

How about interference with the strut tower bar or plastic cover? any probs with installation there? I'm really considering the AAM spacer

The strut bar is raised via washers afterwards no interference between plenum and strutbar and none between strut bar and hood either.

Its very hard to find which setups on plenums gain the most power. Every test is different, and every plenum or spacer has it's ups and downs.
We've had good experiences with Motordyne for spacers and MREV kits for the 300hp motor, and Crawford/APS for full upper plenums.

"How about interference with the strut tower bar or plastic cover? any probs with installation there? I'm really considering the AAM spacer"

the direction will tell you to place 2 washers to raised the height, but I used 3, which easily cleared it.

i think it's interesting that they tested the plentums - aam is altered atmosphere right?

btw: where can you get the AAM Plenum... and is this was a majority of you are recommending? I know you have it Fred...you seem happy with it...
also anyone know if a Greddy Strut Bar will clear it without the use of washers?

AAM is a Maryland based company Jeff, based on what Fred has said it is a bit of a drive from our area to get to their shop. here is their web page (http://www.alteredatmosphere.com/main.asp)

I haven't really heard the greatest of enthusiaism from people dealing with them though

I recommend getting a spacer or a plenum from a FA sposnor.

I got the spacer from AAM before I became an activist here.

Performance has good products you should consider Jeff, I'll gladly stop by the office and walk you thru their catalog sometime.

Spacer Kit (http://performancenissanparts.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=1234_1002_153_174_374&produ cts_id=6060) That link will take you to Performance Nissans Motordyne spacer page, they say it will fit under the stock strut tower bar and hood with spacers much like the AAM, it also includes a thermo gasket and is a little cheaper than the AAM kit. Your money your choice I suppose.

- I've been driving around and notice a nice gain (even though I haven't heavily punch the throttle)
- noticable pull from a 40mph roll
- The crappy AAM result from the Z mag seems to be faulty (there will be some retesting)
- Motordyne's a good brand. Only 5/16" will clear the stock strut, not the 1/2" You can also be hardcore and go for the Copper ISO Thermo, which will set you back $500+. It helps keeping the temp within your plenums cool.
- Go through a FA sponsor. I reluctantly went through Hopup Racing (only vendor that carried them, in my search) and they gave me grief once again, as they did with my side skirts. THEY NEVER place your order until you call the 2nd time. I called them twice and they still didn't process my order. Had to call 2 more times. Took about 2 weeks.
