View Full Version : How many teeth on the VQ35's cam sensor gear?

Hello,
Has anyone looked at the trigger wheel that the VQ35's cam sensor reads off of? I guess it's used for the variable timing but I just need to know how many teeth it has and if it has any "missing teeth" such as 6 teeth with one tooth "missing" for a timing reference, etc. The sensor mounts on the back of the head.

Thanks,
allen

Well, I cant seem to find the amount of teeth on the gear at the moment, but I did find how it gets its signal - there are high and low teeth on the gear, and thats what makes the gap in the waveform to give cylinder identification. I will keep searching for a number of teeth

Thank you for looking. I checked the FSM but didn't see a picture of the signal wheel. I have access to a VQ35 core motor that I can look at, if all else fails I'll pop off the valve cover and take a look.

thanks,
allen

Congrats on finding your info...

Question though... just for my curiosity and better understanding of our Zs... what does this information get you?... or be used for? FI?

I'm building a standalone computer for the VQ35DE and am researching ways to keep the stock ignition system. That would require a cam sensor and a crank sensor so I was trying to find out more on that cam sensor.

I also need the stock fuel and ignition maps if anyone has access to them http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif
