That would be hot...a 150hp mini hatchback.

Only if they made it look like the sport concept.

They could make a three door version of the versa resembling sport concept. Then again, they can also make a two door version of Sentra resembling Azeal and call them both SE-R.

I'd buy Versa SE-R in any body style other than the sedan before i'd buy any SE-R based on the 07 Sentra purely based on style.

SE-R would be great! they need something quick to compete with the Caliber SRT-4, Civic Si, Golf GTi.... in Europe, they have a 3 door 2.0L turbo Megan, ~220BHP. THey should bring that over as a SE-R model!
They would probably use the new Clio RS 2.0L(197hp) since they share platforms and if I'm not mistaken some of the same engines..

Man, I would just drool if Nissan threw convention out the window and put a small displacement V6 in a two door compact car along the lines of the Sport Concept and gave it AWD.
Something like the upcoming VWR32, but without the questionable VW build quality.
Sadly, it'll never happen http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/tear.gif

Don't give up hope. I think there are great possibilites for an SE-R Versa or something with more muscle than the basic Versa. Let's see what happens.

You'd sell your wife for a Mazda MX-3. Just admit it.
What about the white one I saw last week?
License plate MYMX-3 ... though it wasn't a Michigan plate, I don't think.
<= would consider a 2.0L V6. Would also consider voting for Joe Biden. NOT!

Nissan VERY much has to come up with SOME car --with a real engine-- that is light & small enough to drive like the good Sentras of the 90's.
The bloated car trend has just got to stop.
the requirements for a cool car are SO simple:
Under 2700 pounds -- as far under it as possible!
&
at least 140hp/140ftp tq -- more is good!
and finally:
--close gear ratios so you can have fun driving it at speeds that actually can occur when you are not on the Utah Salt Flats!!!
why can't they do these things right anymore??

I'll say yes, but only in two years. I think they need to let the commuter car gain traction, and they'll introduce a coupe version in a year or two.

Maybe a 3dr hatch but not a traditional coupe...

(Quote) CX35 : Maybe a 3dr hatch but not a traditional coupe...
: ) i'd be happy with a hatch! as long as it's light, torquey, and fun, shape is secondary.
(though i do prefer to have a trunk; things get stolen less when they are not visible...)

That Clio looks good. I don't mind having this in my garage. I hope Infiniti will come out with the CX25/35 as previewed a year ago.

The Clio V6 is awesome. But we'll never get anything like it.
The Sport Concept as a production car would have been my next car provided it didn't have a dog engine. Of course, we'll never get anything like this either.
Unfortunately Nissan doesn't seem to be as inspired as they have been in recent years. They turned even the legendary GT-R into some tame ass coupe suitable for Soccer Mom's and teenage girls the world over. Not to mention it is one of the ugliest cars I have ever seen in my life.
The new Sentra and Versa are borderline embrarassing from a design point of view as well.
To have an extreme Nissan bias, and to struggle for reasons to justify the purchase current Nissan product, well, that really says it all.

90M30DRV, your points are well taken. I think from what I've read off this board, is that everybody has questions about where nissan is going to take the sport compact offerings from Nissan. will we have a sentra se-r in a coupe form? what about a versa se-r? is the sport compact enthusiast market still there in numbers, or is it just vocal?
My biggest question now is even if there is a versa SE-R, and they make it a hatch a la sport concept, will they fix the numb steering feel from the electric unit that initial reports are giving us?
truth is, nissan hasn't made any announcements about the sport compact offering. Remember, the spec-v kind of caught everybody by surprise when it was released. And these models we're seeing are the commuter editions. So, for me, I'm not counting my eggs before they hatch and waiting for the LA show to see what Nissan has in store for us.
as for the skyline, it's always been pretty dog ugly, but has always been about performance anyhow. I really want to see what nissan has in store for us with a turbo vq.

How can you be so sure? The GT-R hasn't even come out yet.

Because it's fairly common knowledge at this point that it's getting some ***** paddle shifters that even cars like Honda's Fit now employ (how inspiring). There are reports that Nissan is ditching AWD in favor of RWD with a bunch of traction and stability control nonsense. These are just a few of the things that make it wimpy.
It's not a "GT-R" at this point. Nissan is just using the badge for marketing reasons. We don't "finally get a GT-R", we get a new sports car from Nissan with a stolen identity.

I'm not sure how adding paddle shifters to the GT-R makes it any less of a car, just because others have put it in first. Adding paddle shifters to the fit sport, I think, is more worthy of congrats to Honda for taking that risk.
AWD vs RWD is all FUD (fear, uncertainty, and doubt) and marketing exploration, just like adding a V-8 instead of a six cylinder is.
But you're right, it's not a 'GT-R' at this point. it's freed itself from its skyline roots, to become a global supercar, as the skyline/g35 has become a global sedan platform. I, for one, will welcome the changes and whatever evolution it will become. I look forward to when nissan releases the specs.
regardless, that conversation is far removed from the conversation of a versa se-r

Hopefully there will be a Versa SE-R based on the Nissan Sport and maybe the Next Sentra SE-R will be based on the Azeal, I hope Nissan does away with the Altima SE-R, I don't see the point in it to this day, it adds more overlap than is necessary in an already crowded portion of the Nissan/Infiniti lineup.
Hey, Maybe the new SE-Rs will be available with "paddle shifters"

Didn't paddle shifters start out with F1 cars?
Not to mention the V12 Vanquish, 911 Turbo, (uses toggle switch on the steering wheel) and ALL Ferraris.

Yea, but when 14K econoboxes start offering paddle shifters, the "cool factor" drops quite significantly. Ferrari is Ferrari, and neither Honda nor Nissan are Ferrari. In other words, paddle shifters in street cars are a cheap novelty unless the street car happens to be a Ferrari.
Any real GT-R has a standard manual transmission.

Oh I totally agree. I think that there is something very gimmicky about the paddle shifters on the fit sport. Especially since it's probably connected to an automatic tranny. (I don't really know either way.) thanks honda for making it cheap.
but, I could see it on a GT-R, just because of the racing pedigree. but I agree, there's nothing more satisfying than rowing through gears on a manual shifter.
