I also like this exerpt from an article also in Autoweek.
We looked up the German price for Eos and were shocked to find it translates to $36,516 for the 2.0 turbo and $42,924 for the V6. If you compare German prices with VWs now sold here, you can probably knock 20 percent off those figures, which puts Eos roughly in the $30,000-to-$39,000 range, but that’s pure speculation on our part.
There's so many cars I'd buy for that kind of money and none of them are VW's. Infiniti, Lexus, BMW and Audi all have cars in that price range and I'd buy a car from them before I buy from VW. And yes, I know Audi is VW. Their cars are nicer though.

Volkswagen Gruppe can't figure out where the VW brand belongs and where the Audi brand belongs. It's not hard!

Audi's are VW with nicer interior? Last time I talked to VW owners they claimed they were driving baby Porsche.

The pricing structure is similar. http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/smash.gif

http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/iamwithstupid.gif I think I would lose control of my right fist if some idiot tried to convince me their VW is a Porsche anything.
Why don't they try billing their cars as baby Lamborghini's? They're owned by VW also.

Yea, but their commercials are funny. Hope they're making more.

All German car drivers suffer from the same delusions: They honestly think that nothing else even comes close to their German car.
Granted, I am biased. But its not so much the car as the people I meet who drive them! Quote from one M3 owner: "doesn't matter if its faster, its still just a Nissan" http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Amazingly, if you replace Nissan with Dodge or Subaru, that same quote appears here frequently.

I've sworn by bimmer's my whole life after that one fateful ride in an E36 M3 way back in the day. There was nothing close to it back then, and I'd still take one of those over an E46 anyday. In all honesty, if you're looking for a bimmer these days it should only be an M model. Even then, I'd only get the M3 because if my car (M5, M6) is going to be an automatic then I'd rather have an AMG. The AMG engines are way better. You're better off with a different car as opposed to a regular non-M bimmer. It's sad, but it seems they're concentrating too much on their design and not enough on improving the ride. I shouldn't say improve. Rather I should say raise the bar. Most automakers are on par chassis-wise with bimmer today.

That is absolutely true of course. It is in my experience however that the German car owners go far beyond the usual dislike of another brand, of Japanese or American cars or whatever. They take it all the way to totally dismissive and even condescending.

I blame the automotive press for German car owner's bloated heads. They put them on such a high pedestal.

The pimp my ride commercials?
It's funny that VW is making fun of that culture because they are the one that started "import tuning" with the VW Bug.

Talk about being sore losermen.

You'll find that there are a few product platforms that were used in both brands...for example...the http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/auto.gif VW Golf/GTI/Jetta/and New Beetle are on the same platform as the current Audi TT and previous generation A3/S3 that never came State side. As noted the main difference in the simular products (say A3/S3 vs Golf/Gti) would be the $10,000 price difference and the fact that the Audi cars could be had with AWD. They are very simular cars...just one is more "luxurious and sporty" then the other. What's amazing too is the difference in treatment that you recieve at the VW/Audi stealership when you get an Audi vs. a VW. As far as my VW ownership goes...well...First Vw...Last VW. http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/beatdeadhorse5.gif They're tooo unreliabe, EXPENSIVE to do basic maintenance to, and honestly they don't hold up very well for the premium that you pay. VWs product IS OVERPRICED.
Well... I owned a Mark IV GTI... and absolutely loved it. To this day I would love to have another GTI as a daily driver.
Pricing though... OMFG what are they thinking. I got my GTI for $21,000 a few year back. They sticker is more like $29,000 today. I dont think so!
At the Mazda dealership yesterday I saw a $29,800 MX-5. WTF? Is mazda falling into the same trap??

I'd rather have a $29,000 Accord EX-V6 Coupe with all the pinstripes.

Typical marketting compaign option for crappy products. First double the MSRP, then sell off the product at half off. Somebody is bound to be dumb enough to fall for the trick.

I'm kinda tied to my GTI for financial reasons as of now...aka poor college kid and car paid off. But I can tell you that the 1990 Ford Thunderchicken that I owned was a far more reliable car then this POS GTI. In 250,000+ miles on that T-Bird the only major repair was replacing the head gasket and water pump at around 170,000 miles. The list of expenses on the this GTI are as long as my arm and I'm yet to crack 100,000 miles on it. Give me a month and a half and I'll be over the 100,000 mile mark. I WON'T BE BUYING ANOTHER VW PRODUCT. On a side note...I took an '06 Civic SI for a test drive a few days ago...I WAS VERY IMPRESSED.
