According to Autoblog Spanish, Volvo had originally planned on releasing official details and photos of the C30 hatchback on July 25th, but you know how the internet works...

We did a double take at first seeing these pics of the production version of the C30 hatchback that first debuted as the C30 Concept (http://www.autoblog.com/2006/01/09/volvo-c30-concept/) at the 2006 Detroit auto show. The production version and the concept on which it's based vary little in appearance, right down to their fetching double-spoked wheels.

The front end is the typical Volvo fare found on the S40 and V50, and the rear reveals the same hatch found on the concept that is inspired by the legendary P1800 ES. The only changes of note are a new bumper out back that adds reflectors at the corners and more traditional round exhaust tips instead of the concept's triangular ones.

Hopefully Volvo will be forthcoming with more info on the C30 now that the cat's out of the bag.

Nice. If Volvo offers it with the I5 turbo and awd, they'll have a rally contender on their hands.

Although the US Focus isn't based on the new chassis(supposedly too expensive to be sold here), maybe just an 'SVT' version could be based on the Volvo S30.

The entry level lux hatch market in North America is starting to get interesting...

Does this only comes in FWD?

I am not quite sure -- they didn't even say when the concept was debuted. Here is hoping for a AWD + 6sp manual + turbo + 260hp :)

Nope, awd is available. It's just like the S40, which is available with a turbo I5 and awd.

That's why it would make such a good hot Focus model. There's already a fwd 225hp turbo I5 Focus ST sold in Europe. It's over 10secs faster than the old Focus RS on the Nurburgring.

Add awd to the ST with a nice power bump(maybe some lightweight parts too), and you've got a nice Focus RS. Basically, Ford really just needs to reskin this S30 as a Focus.
