Anyone seen the new commercials on ESPN News? One shows a man in a small car having a clastrophobic attack. Then you see him in a Versa and everything is fine. The end of the commercial copies all these drug ads. Pretty funny stuff.

No, but they'll be launching ads all over the place soon.

Yeah I just saw 2 commercials on Discovery. Funny stuff. I actually LOL. The whole medicine thing is good. And the Versa looks VERY good in the ads. Nissan is going to have a hit on their hands. I think the Versa has the best ads out it, the Fit, and the Yaris.
If anyone was watching House on Fox Tuesday night, they would have seen this ad. It was one of the first few commericals that ran and didn't run again during House or the show following it. I think the ad was great and since I DVR'd House, I can watch the ad anytime I want.
The commercials are pretty funny. The one with the cake getting smashed into the guys shirt is crazy!

Nissan reported very strong sales of the Versa, mostly because the CVT-equipped Versa have been very well-received by customers. Pity that the Honda Fit didn't get the CVT for the North American version, because otherwise it would have been a more competitive car in terms of performance against the Versa.

The thing about not including the CVT on the Honda Fit means that the Fit with the 5AT transmission makes the car slower than it should be with the automatic transmission despite the fact the 5AT unit is one of Honda's best units (the 5AT works far better with the more powerful 2006/2007 Civic that uses the 140 bhp R18 engine).

CVT is Nissan's "thing" now. Honda or Toyota probably will not use such transmissions so they don't look like they are copying, or scared, of Nissan.

Mtviewguy. I'm the versa mod here, so I'm pro versa, anti fit. actually I'm more pro nissan and anti honda.
but yes, the fit would have been more competitive with a cvt.
I believe nissan's got a stake in Jatco, the transmission manufacturer that has built the cvt. they've been making them for close to 15 years now, so i think they've got a bit of a lead on honda and toyota.
as for the versa commercials versus the fit and yaris', I think I like it better. it's a bit tongue in cheek, but still gets the point across. compared to the fit and yaris, it's a little more conventional, but I think it has a larger mass appeal and isn't really as youth oriented. it's also pretty solid because it basically is one upping the fit and yaris ads.
It's interesting, I saw a different print ad in car and driver the other day. the one with the red background and the mr18 engine. definitely tagerted for a car guy. I wonder if we'll see a two page ad in mags like time with a second page like the pharmeceutical ads have. I think that'd be hilarious.

I've read that JATCO used to be a Nissan subsidiary until only a few years ago. That explains why Nissan is using CVT's on the Versa, Sentra, Altima and Maxima models.

The Fit already gets better gas mileage than the Versa so I wouldn't exactly pity it.
Sure it might do even better with a CVT but I don't know how much R&D Honda has in CVT's, so it might not be worthwhile (financially) for them to go that route.
Back on topic, saw the commercial and I think it's great.
