While its American compatriots have decided they can't compete with the likes of the Honda Odyssey and the Toyota Sienna and are throwing in the Wet Wipe in the minivan market, Chrysler, which still holds the minivan sales crown, is showing its intention to stay and fight the Asians with its redesigned '08 models. The 2008 Dodge Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country look to be a strong riposte, adopting many of the features seen on their competitors and adding some new twists of their own. The vehicles have all-new sheetmetal, with more squared-off styling. They are longer and wider and ride on a two-inch longer wheelbase. Short-wheelbase variants disappear, as does the four-cylinder engine. The 3.3-liter and 3.8-liter V-6s return, joined by a new 4.0-liter V-6 with 240 hp. A third seating configurations is now offered. Standard is two bench seats. Stow 'n Go (2nd and 3rd row seats flop into the floor) is optional, as is a power-folding third row. A new choice is Swivel 'n Go, whereby the 2nd row chairs can face forward or backwards. When flipped around there's even a little table that can be installed. (The swiveling 2nd row seats do not fold into the floor.) The minivans also pick up other new features including: curtain air bags, roll-down windows in the slider doors, a rear-view camera, Chrysler's myGig hard-drive entertainment system, side window sunshades, remote start, heated seats in the second row, and LED interior lighting. The '08 model minivans arrive in showrooms this fall.

I haven't heard about IEEE 1394 in a long time.

I do wish the minivan I drove back in school had that. Would be awesome for pre-partying.

Great car-pooling rig, too! (For working grown-ups, who have to pay the partying teen`s bills!)

Yeah, but it doesn't seem to have much leg room. You might end up rubbing knees with the person sitting across from you. :p

Why are there no cup holders in the Table? One turn and all the drinks go flying. Our old Dodge fuullsize van from the 70's had cup holders in the table....Should I send Chrysler a pic to shake their memory?

I love camping so if minivan can include more camping features like flat sleeping area and lots of storage, that would be great. In addition, someone can come up with something that can be a high tech cubicle. That will gear towards people who work a lot from home such as high tech contractors/workers, and at the same time can have a lot of room when it's time for family. I can see this would be great for people who hit heavy traffic on their way to work to pull over at a parking lot and work until the traffic/accident clears up.

I don't like minivans, but as far as minivans go, I like that it's back to looking understated. Something about the interior just yells out at me though. What's the deal with the air vents in the center being the most prominent feature? With steering wheel controls that look like they lack much input, the driver is forced to drop their hand and essentially their eyes pretty low to adjust the climate. I'd have rather seen the vents lower and tilted up vs. taking up the main space in the center stack.

Does it pass crash tests when the second row seats are facing backwards??

The center stack is all wrong. When are car companies going to realize that adjustable wents could be placed very low while radio and HVAC controls could be up higher where they are easier to see and reach?

No, Ralph ... are you gonna write a book about that too?!

Why even bother with the dashboard mounted shifter in that stupid location? Just go back to the classic column mount.

Chrysler finally got the memo that classic column mount = ghetto style

Who wants their knees to freeze or bake near the air vents???

I said ADJUSTABLE air vents. They can be placed near the nears, but the air flow can be directed away from the knees.

It's Hip to be Square

Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83,I think they really came into their own, commercial and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consumante professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far much more bitter, cynical sense of humour. In '87, Huey released this, Fore, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip to be Square", a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself.

... unlike the new DCX minivans, which are a statement about "I thought the cheapest price option was the best."

Of course, the Chrysler T&C is not cheap in price, but it IS cheap in feel. So you get what you pay for, if you go for that kind of thing.

My sentiments exactly. This vehicle has so many "WTF?" spots, I just don't know what kind of drugs these people were on...

It's just really conventional. The front end is the Dodge truckish type, tacked onto a squared-off body.
