Why aren't the Torque numbers for the new G37 engine
only a bit higher then the 07' G35 model, 270 vs 268 lb -ft?

Shouldn't the higher displacement give more torque, you can
always increase intake/airflow/exhaust/engine mapping air fuel
mixture for more HP. But those torque numbers normally come
from bigger displacement.. Whats the deal? :(

The torque curve is much broader and flatter. Peak torque is only 1 side of the story. There's much more usable power with the VQ37 than the VQ35. That's why you get an additional 30+ hp at peak with only an increase of 2 lb-ft of peak torque.

HP is a measure of torque over time. Helldorado's explanation is correct.
They could have gone for more torque with a longer stroke.. but that would have reduced the upper rpms and HP.
I would rather see more useable torque down low than up high for everyday driving...
I find VQ35HR to have a good combination of low end torque and upper rpm HP.. you have to love the 7600 rpm limit. But a bit more torque can't hurt..
