The G37 coupe doesn't look too good in these pics :(It seems like nobody can take a picture of the new G that does it justice compared to what people have been saying after seeing it in person.

So I'm just going to withold future judgement until I can see it in person.

But it does make me think

Lower it by 1" and add a nice tint and wow! I didn't think I'd like the sports bumper, but after seen it on this car, I looking forward to seeing when my car arrives. Didn't notice the metal trim on the door handle before. I hoping they used a softer plastic in the door than that on the 07 G35 sedan

Best pics yet in my opinion. Red is sultry on this car, and much better than the boring silver IMHO. Of course, the ivory pearl will be the real test of its artistic success! :D

Is it just me or are the multitude of colors and textures used in this door a bit much? I mean polished aluminum door latch, brushed aluminum door handle, washi aluminum accent, with black above and tan below.... I'm in sensory overload!

It's growing on me.
It is. It looks bigger every time I see it. How much does this thing weigh?

I'm seeing more and more Lexus and BMW styling cues on this car. It's too bad because I thought that Infiniti was taking their own path after the design of the G35.

I'd sure love to have that engine in my car though. :D

pics from the Nissan Sport event..

Please note: There was no dealership involved in this event. Infiniti loaned Nissan Sport this pre-production G37 for our evaluation. We then decided to team up with two of our great advertisers, Stillen and EverythingG35 (Infiniti of Scottsdale), and scheduled exclusive sneak peeks for our readers and the G community in general.

Check out the Summer 07 issue of Nissan Sport for the G37 on the cover and a comprehensive review of the car.

Thanks in advance for this clarification.

Since you are the closest to the new G, has it retained it's exhaust note?

Sound is very subjective... but to me it has retained the unique exhaust note. It may be slightly more agressive. I personally like it.

I'll still wait for my own personal view until I issue my final judgement on the styling, but from these shots it looks very similar to the G35, with the front a bit nicer IMO, and the rear a bit worse (again IMO.) The muscularity of the rear 'haunches' seems diminished, but the front seems meaner.

The G37 seems to be more stylistically coherent than the G35 if you know what I mean - but it also is a bit more blah as well.

Its defnitely growing on me... but I'm still happy with my purchase... Is it me or does it seem like the rear would be better proportioned if the wheels were just slightly forward? I know its probably mechanically more sound this way... I'm just saying aesthetically I feel like the back end could be longer and the wheelbase a bit shorter for a visually more appealing car.

Looking at all the pictures I think I could overlook any styling cues I dislike for the performance the car should put out. The main thing I think is that the car, although not what some of us would have liked to see, is that it is not ugly. The interior is awesome and there should be a big enough increase in real world performance to make this a legitimate second-gen G coupe.

I completely agree. The new g is a legitimate second-gen g coupe. It's not a home-run.. but to me.. neither was the orig g35 coupe. I loved it but it had it's problems as well (for me anyways). The new g strikes a very good balance between what the g35c did well.. and improved upon what it didnt do so well (i.e. interior and other styling cues i didnt care for). Overall both are good looking.. fun cars to drive.

There should be an increase with this coupe over the 1st gen, but I don't think it will be any faster than the new sedan. With the extra weight its carrying over the sedan as well as not being any more aggressively geared, I don't think the VQ37HR is going to bring out much improvement in times over the sedan with the VQ35HR.

I just noticed on the pictures here that the new coupe doesn't have the same "twisted sword" grill that the 07 sedan has. I thought that was kind of cool when I first saw it. Wonder why they've already abandoned that concept...

HOPEFULLY!!!!!! this is an improved grille without the chipping issue found with the 07 sedan. The sedan grilles have a serious problem, and I wouldnt be surprised to see them changed for the next model year in some way to address that issue.

Unfortunately, Infiniti has had a tendency in the past to drag it's legs when it comes to upgrading to the new and improved parts.

I didn't want to start a new thread for this, but has anyone received their copy of Nissan Sports Magazine? I'm curious to hear their take on the car as it seems to be more focused on comparing it to the previous G35. They also seem to have an article on how difficult modding the G37 might be.

The G37 will be featured in the July issue. There is a comprehensive review of the car, and the magazine should hit the stands in the second week of July.

I think it is obvious right off the bat that Infiniti is pulling away a bit from the performance arena and concentrating more on luxury and features. This might seem to make sense to the marketeers at Infiniti (note how I said Infiniti) - especially if you don't want (or aren't being allowed to have) the G35C to steal the thunder of the Z and GT-R.

But it might (might!) mean that Infiniti is going to come out with an upscale version of the GT-R. This I tend to doubt but I guess it's possible. The best I am going to hope for is that Infiniti realizes that it is making a mistake by 'Lexus-izing' the G coupe and puts some more zip and character back into it.

Overall, while you may be able to mod the G37, unless you do some SERIOUS modding (like ripping out the back seat and stripping the interior, etc., you will still be stuck with a car that weighs almost 3700 pounds. Overcoming the weight with power can make the car move quicker, but we'll have to see how the aftermarket greets the VQ37VHR.

The more I see and read of the G37 the more I think it lacks some of the spirit of the G35C. I really hope I'm wrong, but too many sources from too many different places seem to be pointing in the (scary) direction of the car becoming a slightly more frisky version of Lexus' SC coupe. :( Maybe a personal drive will change my mind - in fact it's about the only thing I trust right now.

Another magazine article - regardless of who comes out with it - isn't going to do too much for me at this point.

It's time for the butt dyno to tell the tale.

Hi Eagle1, Thanks for the update, I'll have to check it out. Look forward to it.

Riffster, I would love to see and have hear rumors of a Infiniti version of the GTR. That being said, I'm not thrilled about the luxury over performance direction they seem to be taking the G37. I will hold my judgement until I drive it, but the reason I didn't go to a 2007 G35 sedan was that after testing the car, it made me realize just how fun my 03 coupe was to drive.

I really don't car for fast or quick, but I like a fun nimble car that has enough power and handling to allow me to really enjoy myself and I want it in a luxury package. I thought the G35 coupe was build for buyer like myself and that a GTR version of that would be the car that makes my pants wet.

Now I'm questioning whether I fit within Infiniti's target market. I get that they need to do what's best for their company, just disappointed that they may no longer view buyers like myself as targets.

I doubt that the G37 has lost much if any character.... remember the same review sources lamenting the loss of it's former harsh and edgy character were the ones who complained about NVH and cheap interior plastics the first go-round. They don't have much credibility in my view.

I also would not go as far as to say that they Lexus-ized the G coupe. It's clear from even the most pessimistic of these new reviews *cough Car and Driver cough* that its limits are far higher and more easily accessible than any current Lexus. It would take the IS-F or LF-A to out-sport the G coupe. And who knows, by then we may have an Infiniti version of the GT-R to answer that volley.

Taken by itself, any one review doesn't mean much. But when review after review comments about the same thing - the fact that the new G37, while having more horsepower and better handling, has lost some of the zip and fun the G35C has.

I also would not go as far as to say that they Lexus-ized the G coupe. It's clear from even the most pessimistic of these new reviews *cough Car and Driver cough* that its limits are far higher and more easily accessible than any current Lexus. Well, it's a fact the car now weighs nearly 3700 pounds. And it's a fact that it has softer look with more curves than edges - those two alone are at least a start towards gentrifying the G coupe.

Maybe I'm wrong - and maybe a test drive will prove me so - but to me it was a big sign when the GT-R was badged as a Nissan. That action said more than any of us know.

I see what you mean Riff, but then again the fact is every car is getting heavier. The reason the 335i is lighter than the G37 is that it, as is the case when comparing the sedans, is shorter and narrower. It IS disturbing in a pure performance sense and I see no end in sight. The only way to combat it is to downsize, as it (thankfully) appears is going to happen with the next Z.

WOW, BMW has already announce support for the iPhone.

It's the kind of innovative approach you would expect from BMW.

In 2004, BMW was the first to integrate the iPod into BMW vehicles and have customers take full control of their music on the road. So it seemed only logical that BMW be among the first to ensure iPhone owners have the same ability to enjoy their music, plus the added benefits of Bluetooth® hands-free calling across our model line. We are pleased to announce that BMW owners can use their iPhone in this way from day one.

Please see the detailed compatibility information below.
