If this thing comes out with the right price and powerplants, this next gen RWD Tiburon could be trouble for Nissan and the like considering it will be all alone in the small affordable sporty RWD coupe market...granted it may still compete against V6 mustangs, G6 coupes, Eclipse (i laugh), accords ane civic Si's...only one of those is a RWD coupe, but I wouldnt call a v6 mustang sporty...Something like this could also hurt the Z market as well.

I know Im looking forward to this, it would make a great daily/travel car for someone like me in their mid-20's.

it be really interesting if it came available with all three engine choices, 4cyl, v6, v8 would be very versatile and very competitive across mulitple segments

Let's just wait and see what happens. Hyundai hasn't had a long history with turbos and even better companys have tried to get back into the turbo game have had recent troubles(ie. BMW & Mazda).

In NA form with similiar setups(DOHC) Hyundai can't compete with Japanese offerings on a HP/L. Therefore, they usually have to bump the displacement to get similar power and torque as their rivals. Their 3.8L V6 is more comparable to 3L engines of the Japanese and is behind the 3.5L V6s.

I'm glad that more sporty small cars are coming out but I'm waiting to see what Nissan, Toyota, Honda and even GM have to offer in the future. Hopefully, some of the rumours are true.:)

I agree, I think the next 5years will be interesting for RWD entries..lets just hope alternative fuel setups dont ruin everything

It's still a Hyundai... I live in Korea, and they are on sale here. I will agree they do look nice, but they follow the rest of the Korean sports car lineage..

I actually really like the current tiberon. The front looks a lot like the austin martins and the back is kinda ricey good. The handling and engine are exactly, and i mean to the T, of the old Mx-6. The revs the same, handles the same and feels like it has the same Hp/torque too.

whats this korean sports car lineage that you are talking about?

Yeah Im confused by this too...is it your point that they dont have a sports car lineage or that their attempts at sports cars have been lack luster...I think Hyundai finally has the capability to build something worth buying.

I test drove an 05 tib gt 6spd and everything felt great, low mileage, great interior presence, could have been faster but I was just looking for a daily...I may have been more serious about it if I could have gotten more comfortable in it, I kept hitting my head on the roof (sunroof model).

It will be really interesting how much power the available engines come with compared against the cars weight.

I do feel this car is a great direction, but I just hope they dont botch it and make a car with 250hp and a 3600lb curb weight...for a low $20k car I would hope they could pull off at least a 250hp V-6 at 3000k lbs with leather and a sunroof. That would make for a great starting platform when combined with RWD.

the one i drive in the dealership was something like a retarded 170hp on the GT model and a big displacement of 2.5L i believe. How could they only squeeze 170hp out of a 2.5L engine?

I was making a joke of their attempts to create a sports car.. I didn't mean it seriously.. I know Korea has yet to develop any true sports car.
The Tiburan/Tuscani is truely the only thing they have going for them.

I'm hearing it won't be called Tiburon anymore. It won't be anything like the Tiburon in performance, price, or package so why keep the name.

Looks kinda like an altima coupe to me. They better be packing a turbo 4 or v8 if they want to step up to the plate. Hyundai V6 just doesnt ring my bell.

If it looks anything like that drawing or photoshop I woldn't even consider it. The front fascia looks like a typical hyundai, a sports car should not look like an accent in the front.

update; the V8 rumored to be an option might produce 380hp.

Mustangs suck as a sports car. This may hurt the Z.

HP/Liter is kind of a pointless perspective. What matters is where in the powerband that 170hp can be utilized.

If HP/liter was the end-all of engine design, we'd have the S2000 4-banger in Honda and Acura light trucks.

yeah.

on the side note though, my korean buddy just bought a new tib GT and i really think the koreans made a huge improvement on the interior/fit and finish of the product. its put together very well and it was cheap. Plus it has a good warrenty too.

yea somewhere i read that toyota's biggest worry is the koreans since they are growing at a very past rate and have learned from toyota's mistakes. only thing is most of their cars look like knock offs of other cars.

only thing is most of their cars look like knock offs of other cars.

Chevrolet and Toyota are most threatened because of that. Honda and Nissan products are at least somewhat distinctive.

Finbarr ONeil, the exec who brought Hyundai from near-death to newborn, openly said that there was a significant number of Americans who wanted smart and practical transportation and weren't easily influenced by the emotionally-charged marketing of Ford and GM (also Nissan and Mazda).

Being value-minded, these consumers were likely to migrate from Toyota products, which are getting unjustifiably expensive, and Chevy products, which are pedestrian and cheap but not necessarily smart purchases.

My 240 has a 2004 GTO LS1 so most cars have problem with my Nissan.
Nothing from Korea will come close or will it ever.
