The news has reach Münich now, the EX will outperform the X3 both in visual appearance as well in sheer performance and now BMW has taken emergency measures:

With ca 300 HP the EX will lead the X3 unless something more is offered and the rescue is called twin turbo (from the 335).
My predictions is that the coming X3 will be stronger than the EX, but turbos will be more costly in the long run. Frequent oil changes are required and you must drive some what more turbominded (no hard driving before the engine oil is hot enough - takes ca 10- 15 minutes - and not stopping the engine after som inspired driving, idle ca 60 - 120 sec). Many people will not respect all that. And turbos will fail despite call measures taken.

Interesting info. The X3 will be due for a redesign by 2010 and it simply must be competitive with the best in the segment.

Most X3 owners are College Educated Males aged 36-55 years: Hippies.

The people who beat on a car all the way to their garage door are usually the type that have the keys taken away, and are summarily grounded for two weeks: Whippersnappers.

Word... if you're a guy and you're driving an X3... man up and buy an X5.

The X5 really is a nice tall-wagon-SUV thingy, and I'm generally not fond of that category of vehicles.

It looks like a wagon to me, but with SUV capabilities, mechanicals, and underpinnings. I guess the definition of "SUV" is getting vague these days.
