So came to work today and saw a brand new Red Accord Sedan in the parking lot. Of course I had to do a walk-around and see.

I actually thought the front looked like a CTS from far away, but when I got closer I saw it was an Accord. It was a pretty big car, almost as big as the Mercury Montego sitting next to it. The interior looks like a BMW's interior with the lay-out of the Navi, but there were a hell of a lot of buttons!

This thing was sitting on nice 17 inch wheels and I believe it was V-6. The back does look like a Saturn L-series though.....but the profile looks like an Acura RL, but this car does look much better in person than in the photos in my opinion.

I sure hope so... from what I've seen it looks worse than the previous accord.

I've seen a few on the road.
I've also seen a delivery trailer full of the new Accords.

Looks quite nice in person.
And being so large, the size adds to its positive presence.
It looks like a cozy, fashionable family car.
Not flashy, but gentle on the eyes.
It's more chiseled than a Sonata... I'd say its just right for what it is.

+1

I saw it on the road the other day and it looks like a mixture of cars. The front lights look like a camry from the side just from the way that they poke out. The back lights look Saturnish. And overall, it looks like a Hyundai. I'm not really a fan of this year's.

I know - I just like to see them "in the wild." :D

After looking at a few pictures and sitting in '07 Accords and current model Camrys, I don't know how anyone can sit in either one and say that the plastic they use is somehow of better quality than what Nissan puts in the Altima.

I know this plastic:

And it's not impressive to me at all.

This is one overpriced car. In Canada this car in EX-L V6 with Navi trim is fetching $45,400.50!!!

As far as I am concerned, with the loonie having the same value as the American dollar, there is no excuse for such a rip off. Especially when this car is just slightly better than the outgoing model.

If you don't believe me, go to honda.ca and build yourself one of these coupes and be shocked at what honda thinks this overrated, overpriced and fat assed car is worth.

This is one overpriced car. In Canada...

That price you quote includes taxes.

The Toyota Camry is $44,391,
The Nissan Altima is about $46,500.
The VW Passat is about $62,000.
Canadian tax, included in these numbers, is about $5,700. (range $2,700 to $6,700 depending on province.)
(Tax in the USA is about $2,000 to $4,500, depending on state. God bless California.)

So the Honda Accord is right in line with the market.
The fully loaded price of midsized sedans has always been just below the base model of entry level luxury sedans, such as the G35 sedan base (About $47,000).
Same way it is in the USA.

Serves you right for living in Canada. Go back to your sled dogs!

Too many Americans with too many high US dollar paying jobs.
Like UAW workers.

There should be like a reset button where we go back to thinking making $50,000 a year is a crap load of money.

yea to many high paying jobs. but thats becuase the dollar is more easier to come by and the government or greenspan controls that fauset.

well considering the fact greenspan was there during both of their terms and has a heavy impact on the financial situation of the U.S. for many years. FYI though, he's gone now... Bernanke is in charge now.

There is light at the end of the tunnel! http://thegarageblog.com/garage/canadians-launch-price-fixing-lawsuit-against-car-manufacturers/

I sure hope that something good comes out of it, but I personally think that people would get more out of the manufacturers if they just stoped buying new cars for the next 3-5 months, or until they corrected the prices. There are plenty of very decent used cars in the market right now, so I don't see why buying new couldn't wait.

this news comes hot on the heels of Porsche’s announcement that they would be dropping the price of some models by 10% to help decrease the disparity

Just soap and water this time around... its still TOO HOT around here to go through all the motions. I'm going to clay, polish, seal and wax, in a month or so when I won't die of heat exhaustion. Its getting nicer around here, but still mid 80's, maybe fall break... mid October.

and how long does that take you?

07G35S
09-30-2007, 10:17 PM
Its usually an all day activity. I'd say 8-10 hours total... and part of that counting the next morning, because its recommended that the wax be applied after the sealant cures (the suggestion is 24 hours, but i dont have that kinda time!). so i let it sit overnight. Its a long process, but i usually don't do all that but 3 times a year. Rest of the time, just wash and wax.

interesting. i need to do the sealer on my car. but i clay bar it 2x a year b4 winter and after winter. maby once in the mid summer. other then that its wash wax or just just rinse with plain water once a week during the warm weather.

Is that BLACK g37 you got there? Those cars are so beautiful. Being the thread here has already been hijacked... I do have a few questions.

I now own my very 1st ever black vehicle.

I want to do a good detail on it before winter..like you mentioned, mid october.

The car is a 2007 model and has yet to have been waxed or highly detailed since I had taken delivery of it. I wash it pretty regularly. And still lovin' on the black however!

I see way too many black vehicles with swirl marks.

What is the best way to seal and wax a black car for a quality lasting swirl free result? What brands, techneques, etc?

Thanks for any input...I appreciate it.

I have a black m45 and often get told that my car is truly black. It is smooth as glass to the touch, and has a deep black color. However, it comes at a high cost, both money and time. To start, get a good synthetic paint cleaner and sealant. Of course, clay bar, and if you already have swirl marks, a good light compound to buff those out. I use pinnacle wax($68) about once a month. I used to use it weekly, but wax build up and oxidation will start. If you don't want swirl marks, never go to the car wash, and don't wipe your car off, ever. The problemwith black is its always dirty. So you want to always get the dust off without washing again( twice a week for me). So you get detail / guranteed swirl mark spray. I was told by my detailer, whom I use three times a year, not to wipe your car off, no matter what. This was hard for me, as I never want to see it dusty. I use a detailer to lay a good foundation for me to maintain. Just maintinence is running me about 3 hours a week. where I live, there is soooo much envirmental fallout that litterally, I dry the car, go inside, come back and it is dusty already. Black to me has the highest payoff for your hard work though. If you take two of the same cars, one black and one another color, and both are clean, and waxed, the black one is usually lights out.

Well this is the MOST important piece, I'll post what I use/do in a little while (might take a while and I'm at work) but its an intensive process!

Went to Honda dealer to check out new Accord, inside and out. Here is my brief summary of the new 2008 Accord to my 2003 Accord:

2008 Accord has a much more luxurious interior.
2008 Accord looks sportier from some angles, but 'frumpier' from others.
2008 Accord's Nav system is a step down from the outgoing model (no more touch screen + the system is less intuitive to use overall)

Overall, the new Accord:

- Riskier exterior styling
- MUCH better interior styling (not that the old one was bad) including a higher quality look & feel
- Somewhat less ergonomic interior (temp control, nav system, and radio)
