Toyota Motor USA Inc expanded the Tundra full-size pickup truck (http://www.autospies.com/news/Toyota-Adds-13-New-Tundra-Variations-for-2008-21237/#) lineup for 2008, adding 13 new model variations and enhancing standard equipment levels to create a greater value. The 2008 Tundra now offers a choice of 44 model variations in three cab styles. Since its introduction in February 2007, Tundra's share of the half- ton full-size pickup truck segment has more than doubled, going from eight to 17 percent.

"Tundra has been an outstanding success for Toyota and its dealers (http://www.autospies.com/news/Toyota-Adds-13-New-Tundra-Variations-for-2008-21237/#), and additions to the 2008 model line are intended to maintain our momentum," said Bob Carter, Toyota Motor Sales group vice president and Toyota Division general manager. "Despite tough market conditions, Tundra retail sales were up 57.9 percent through September YTD, and we are on track to achieve our goal of 200,000 unit sales for 2007."

The biggest change for the 2008 Tundra is the increased availability of the two most popular cab styles -- Double Cab and CrewMax -- in the newly named "Tundra Grade," to increase their appeal to price conscious customers. Previously, these four-door models were available only in the intermediate SR5 and top-line Limited Grades. The new Tundra Grade, positioned just below the SR5, is equipped with all of the key standard features consumers expect in their truck, adding up to a great value.

Toyota is bolstering the value of the Tundra SR5 Grade Double Cab and CrewMax by increasing standard equipment. For 2008, these models include the previously optional power bucket front seats, AM/FM stereo with 6-disc CD changer, cold kit, heated mirrors, and mud guards as standard, at a lower price than for a similarly equipped 2007 model.

The Tundra Limited Grade Double Cab and Crew Max models add the formerly optional front and rear parking sonar, cold kit, and mudguards to the standard equipment list, all at a lower price. Finally, the Tundra Grade regular cab model features more rugged work truck styling for 2008, with a new chrome bumper and matte-black grille surround replacing the shiny black front bumper and grille surround.

The Tundra line-up sets a new benchmark in the full-size pickup truck segment for performance, capability, and standard safety features. The 2008 Tundra is available with 4x2 and 4x4 (http://www.autospies.com/news/Toyota-Adds-13-New-Tundra-Variations-for-2008-21237/#) drivetrains and offers three cab styles, three wheelbases, three bed lengths, three engines, and three trim levels.

The Double Cab is the top-selling volume Tundra configuration, accounting for 68-percent of non-fleet sales. The larger CrewMax accounts for 26 percent of Tundra sales. Tundra's available 381-horsepower i-Force 5.7L V8 (http://www.autospies.com/news/Toyota-Adds-13-New-Tundra-Variations-for-2008-21237/#) is one of the most powerful engines available in a half-ton full-size pickup and is chosen by 72 percent of customers.

All Tundra models feature the Toyota STAR SAFETY SYSTEM(TM) as standard equipment, giving Tundra one of the most comprehensive suites of standard safety technology in the full-size pickup truck (http://www.autospies.com/news/Toyota-Adds-13-New-Tundra-Variations-for-2008-21237/#) category. The system includes ABS, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Traction Control (TRAC).

The manufacturers suggested retail price (MSRP) for the 2008 Tundra Regular Cab ranges from $22,290 for the Tundra grade 4x2 with V6 engine and five-speed automatic transmission (http://www.autospies.com/news/Toyota-Adds-13-New-Tundra-Variations-for-2008-21237/#), to $27,770 for the long-bed 4x4 with 5Toyota Motor USA Inc expanded the Tundra full-size pickup truck (http://www.autospies.com/news/Toyota-Adds-13-New-Tundra-Variations-for-2008-21237/#) lineup for 2008, adding 13 new model variations and enhancing standard equipment levels to create a greater value. Next generation titan better be ready for this
Toyota is very much into the game and consistent improvement and marketing too

This, in my opinion, is why the Titan has failed. Lack of model flexibility. Granted, Toyota has much greater resources than Nissan but Toyota has given buyers the kind of model variation this market demands. The Titan has essentially been a one size fits all truck.

Nissan will need not only a new Titan when it debuts but also a new sales strategy in order to seriously compete.

Toyota hit the jackpot with the double cab.
The Tundra's got a real short nose.

Which means the Tundra Double cab has the interior space of the competitors' crew cab, and the bed length of the competitors' extended cab.
Bullseye.

Compared to the Tundra, the Titan Crew Cab has uncomfortable 2nd row seats, worse than the Tundra's Double Cab. The Titan's 2nd row seatback is too upright.

now is time Nissan to do it what coustmer wanted, because once Honda comes with the full size, no matter what Nissan will fall behind into 3rd place as they do it all other areas, let Toyota and Honda lead and follwing them in 3rd place

I don't think Honda is ready for this game. They need a V-8 to compete here and even Acura doesn't have one.

Jesus H., it's utterly depressing to consistently have relatively new Nissan product lines slammed up against established competition. Regardless of the fact that the Tundra only recently moved up to full size from 7/8ths, they've been making the near full-size vehicle in various iterations for a long time, and as mentioned, have far greater resources. Yes, the Titan is going to have to step it up, but I obviously the Tundra didn't come out of the box ready to fully compete either, and it seemed to survive and grow.

Toyota is finally figuring out that trucks are tools used for business and leisure, and people have specific needs. Its not like the Camry -- one size does not fit all.

Maybe one day, a Japanese automaker will bring a full size truck to the US thats substance over style. Not today, but one day. Toyota is getting close.

I have a tundra and I like it a lot. The truck is very comparable to my friends dodge ram - interior wise. Only if Toyota comes out with turbo disel, then it would totally rock.

Um, wow, ok. I guess you learn something new everyday. Apparently people like having 4 billion variations of one model. Reading the title, I thought this thread was going to be "lolz n00bz, 13 different variations of one truck." But it seems everyone is more like "woot! :D" Oh well, I guess if I didn't deeply and passionately hate trucks (and SUVs), I would have understood.

As mentioned before, trucks are typically very big and expensive tools, so alot of hte guys who buy alot of trucks like to be able to set them up exactly the way they want them...regualr cab short bed, long bed, ditto for extended cab and crew cab, then you get into 2x4, 4x4, which 4x4 system? Manul and auto tranny on all body styles, engine options on most, tow package or not...the list is endless. Trucks are probably the most configurable items out there.

Get the right tool for the right job I guess.

I own a 2005 Titan Crew Cab, and it is a better truck than any of the domestic offerings. I have friends who have domestic trucks. They all agree that my truck is better, but none of them will even consider buying a Nissan or Toyota. That is the reason Toyota or Nissan will never lead in sales. BTW, go drive the new Tundra, not as good as you guys think. I'll still keep my Titan. Toyota shows to have more power, but you won't notice much, if at all. Before you think I'm die hard Nissan, I own 2 Toyota trucks that were built in Japan. Best vehicles I've ever owned.
