Here is a quote from Nissan's news release of today:

FRANKLIN, Tenn. (September 3, 2008) – Nissan North America, Inc. (NNA) today reported August 2008 sales of 108,493 units versus 95,527 units a year ago, an increase of 13.6 percent. Sales of Nissan Division vehicles increased 14.2 percent, while sales of Infiniti Division vehicles increased by 8.0 percent.

NISSAN HIGHLIGHTS

With the introduction of the seventh-generation Maxima, sales for the model were strong, reaching 5,484 units, exceeding prior year by 15.5 percent.
What is interesting is that Nissan is the only major auto maker to show a sales increase in August. Ford's August sales are down 26.5% from a year ago, GM down 20.3%, and Toyota down 9.4%.

It is more than the Maxima! It is the entire Nissan and Infiniti line-up. The other car companies have lost their focus.

I agree with that, because when I got my '05 Xterra, there was nothing else in the way of a car that I liked at the time, and I was really impressed with the truck. So much so that I planned to keep the truck for a good while. I decided later that I really liked the luxury features that I didn't have in the truck. I came really close to getting a CTS after a test drive, but for some reason I didn't jump on it. And it really wasn't an important thing to get the CTS.

Then Nissan did this!!!

I have driven the Maxima a total of 5 times with different dealers and I plan on getting one by the middle of Oct. If not before. This is the only car out that is appealing enough to me to make me dump my Xterra.

I think this Maxima is AMAZING and I commend Nissan on what they did with it.

Nissan and been running ads for MONTHS saying "offer ends 9/2". So you would think they had a plan for after 9/2, wouldn't you? Their website (on 9/7) still says they are "updating" and to "check back". I mean, I want my new Maxima, but at 1.9 or 2.9% 60 month financing.

Sorry dude. You will be waiting for a long time before you will see those rates. Nissan has NO incentives on the Maxima. Subject to standard rates. But you can get as low as 5.4% which is decent. If not go out and join a credit union. Even the altima only has 4.9%. The only models that have that low of a rate are our trucks and suv's, but you give up the rebate to get it.

Yeah, I know they don't have anything, that's why I'm waiting for them to update. Hoping its like sept 04 when I bot my 05 Max at 2.9%.

Good news to report.

No, I haven't seen any new 2009 Maximas since I last posted about a month ago.

But I have seen a new Dodge Challenger SE last week, in black. For all practical purposes it could have been used as a decoy in a duck hunt.

The car has no where near the road presence needed to rival the Mustang.
No wonder Tata didn't want Chrysler.

Memo to Nissan.... drop that economical diesel or hybrid motor in the Maxima soon, so that droves of that sleek Nissan design can drown out the Chrysler eyesore.

On another note. I have noticed at least 4, count 'em, 4 A34 Maximas in the employee portion of our office bldg. parking lot (which holds about 120 cars). A couple SEs and a couple SLs. The next most represented is the outgoing Acura TL at three.

That is the problem for the A36 Maxima. Those A34 owners out there probably won't want to part ways with their cars for a good long time. It is that good of a car.

You don't imagine that more than a few of these are Nissan NA or assembly plant management cars, do you?

Leftover 08's are going for $20k brand new in ATL.....drives a hard bargain for the $30k 2009. That may be one of the reasons I'm not seeing too many out here. I've seen like 3 or 4 (which is low IMO), all were beautiful, but I've only seen black & white. No silver or other colors yet on the road, I've seen them at dealerships. I do mostly highway miles so I'm really surprised to not have seen more since my commute is during our horrid rush hours...

Those same 2008 A34 "Leftovers" were going for $21K with taxes at Phoenix dealerships back in March.

In the City of Chicago premium unleaded is back at $4.70 per gallon. (Regular at $4.50). Likely on it's way up to $5.00 by Xmas.

Coincidence that we're not seeing A36 Maximas or its competitor, the G8, which came out just before the Maxima, even in the huge Chicago market?
Lots of 4-cylinder Altimas, though. No coincidence there either.

FRANKLIN, Tenn. (September 3, 2008) – Nissan North America, Inc. (NNA) today reported ........

NISSAN HIGHLIGHTS

With the introduction of the seventh-generation Maxima, sales for the model were strong, reaching 5,484 units, exceeding prior year by 15.5 percent.

FRANKLIN, Tenn. (October 1, 2008) – Nissan North America, Inc. (NNA) today reported September 2008 sales of 59,565 units versus 94,269 units a year ago, a decrease of 36.8 percent. Sales of Nissan Division vehicles declined 38.4 percent, while sales of Infiniti Division vehicles fell by 24.1 percent.
NISSAN HIGHLIGHTS

Nissan vehicles saw sales of 51,786 units in September compared with September 2007’s 84,019 units sold, a 38.4 percent decrease.
The all-new Maxima sports sedan had a strong month, with sales of 4,996 units in September.

Talk about SPIN. Sales are down 10% from the last month for a completely redesigned model.

http://www.nissannews.com/newsrelease.do?id=581&mid=1

Anyone need more proof of what consumers want (rather need)? To be fair BMW Groups car sales also dropped 35% in the same period.

Nissan's money would have been better spent keeping the A34 in production for another two years until the Renault diesel or a forced induction inline-4 would be available for a new A36.

Now let the incentives on the 2009 Maxima begin...

Are you really that oblivious to whats going on. The car industry as a whole is down. EVERY CAR MANUFACTURER saw a decrease in sales. With the industry in this state, I am sure Nissan was expecting to sell even less Maximas than that. Even the Altima dropped all the way down to 16K, which has been knocking on the door to a solid 30k a month. If we were not in such bad economic times the Maxima would be flying off the lots, even with its median $33k price tag. Its a nice car and I have heard nothing but good things about it "on the Streets."

Am I oblivious? On the contrary. Many saw this coming from years ago.

When car buyers started borrowing against the artificially supported equity in their homes to buy or lease - you guessed it - cars, or finance nice vacations.

It had little to do with greedy Wall Street execs. It much more to do with average Americans trying to compete with those affluent execs by chewing off way more debt than they ever needed or could ever afford. Everyone wanted to live like "a Rockefeller".

We live in a time when the mightiest conglomerates of international capitalism are on the brink of collapse.

If Nissan and all the manufacturers don't get up to speed and start putting out what the mass market needs rather than the addictive fix it wants they may not be around two to three years from now. That is the reality that everyone is burying their heads in the sand from.

Logically if home values on average have fallen by 25% off their highs then car prices should be down by at least the same proportion.

0% financing for 36-60 months is offered by Toyota includes Camry's and Corollas. I smell Nissan to follow. However, some fear we're heading into the recession and may hold on to what they currently drive a little longer.

That's all I'm waithing for, low rates, so hopefully, nov or dec. for me.

I check carsdirect.com, just to see what the discount to msrp should approximately be. The other day, I saw Overstock.com has automotive pricing! ... anyhow, when I put my Maxima in there (prem+prem tech and floor, splash, trunk org) the price (35476) was way less than cars direct (36626). The msrp is 38485. Any thoughts.... anyone every acutally buy a car from either of them? In the past, I have been able to find a dealer to match their price, so I didn't bother.

So $500 cash back on 09 Max til 10/31. Can't wait to see what Nov brings. There's a CARMAX near baltimore discounting 09 max about 4k off sticker on a sports/tech car
