I may be moving to Maryland, St. Louis, or Houston, and am interested as to the inspections, and whether there is any chance a 240sx with an SR swap will be legal in either of these places.

Maryland inspection is done one time only and the emisions has to be done every 2 years. emissions is where you may have an issue. i live in PA on the MD line so i dont know exactly how strict they are. out of curiousity where in Maryland were you thinking of moving to?

I would be in the Frederick area.

I don't mind having to put in temp cats, or lean out my car with an AFC...I just don't want a "You have the wrong motor and you're screwed" kind of situation.

Lean out the car by changing fuel pressure instead of using an SAFC. SAFC messes with the timing too much.

as far as st. louis, it really depends on what year your car is. if your s13 like a majority of the sr owners here in stl are, you won't have a problem. its the 96 and above cars that its a little more of a hassle. the best part about mo. is that you can go anywhere in the state to have your car inspected, so go about 30 miles south of stl and you can find dumb hillbilly inspectors that see just another 4 cyl. other than that, we have a few people around in the area that can get it to pass regaurdless.

maryland emissions is not too hard. For a non OBDII car it will have to run on the dyno. But if it's lowered or nice wheels then it's just a tail pipe test. Depending on the location lowered cars get a waiver. My brother took his vert which is pretty low and he just gets waivers. For my turbo 240sx I just slap those tags on my stock DD 240sx and use that as my emissions test car. I would bet that 240sx has been tested more then any S13 in MD LOL. As for state inspection that might be alittle harder. If you move to MD I know some people ;)
