Look at how well the Maxima's direct competitor the G8 is faring.
Remember how it was lauded by Edmunds and all the other press dedicated to automotive ballers: as an 550i beater for half the money, and that at 365 bHp it needed more power as in the 415 bHp GTP edition.
Guess all the ballers who claimed they didn't buy a GTO because they needed the greater room of the Commodore never came through.

There is an unbelievable 8 month surplus of inventory. EIGHT MONTHS worth. Talk about "dead in the water".
I'm surprised they don't offer an LS3 motor from the CTS-V, and we all know how well the CTS-V will sell (since it's just now getting rave reviews).
95% of American consumers who are in the market to buy need these cars about as much as they need narcotics or holes in their heads.
These products were being marketed as if every single car purchaser was going to run out and stock up for a horsepower war.
Nissan could really take the lead in this segment if they followed the Audi/ VW playbook. For starters how about an FI 2.0 liter MR (from the Sentra) dropped into the Maxima. 200-205 bHp. Add some direct injection to the mix, ala AUDI TT-S and you could be talking 260 bHp ala as is fitted to the Audi TT-S, with a likely 30% improvement in fuel economy of the VQ.
The 3.0 diesel V-6, with it's tremendous torque could, as Chairman Ghosn claims, be the range topper.
