This scan was posted at **********************. It sounds like
a defect in the auto tranny.

Yes it has a problem, my tranny died because of it, and got rebuilt and a new tcu is in there now. It is great now. Here is a pic of that bulletin. I orginally posted it.

I talked to my Nissan contact and said that they would fix those problems under the warranty. He didn't want to comment on how many or when it was detected.

Some are suggesting that all 2000 automatic Maximas have this problem. Some of us, have tried without much success to isolate the hesitation, even under hard acceleration.

Judging from owner responses, it seems that not all Maximas have this problem. The problem seems to be very evident in some cars and slight or nonexistant in others.

One reader wrote in to me...

"The 2000 Maxima a/t problem is not a mandatory TSB but that its a transmission modulator valve that governs the smoothness of the 1 to 2 shift point. This modulator apparently works to give more "feel" to the shift as opposed to the smooth shift the designers were originally after. I asked if the shift points were changed with this modulator, and the service advisor said no, just the "feel" is affected. He said his dealership will change it upon request if those drivers prefer a harder shift.

I guess there were drivers who complained that the smooth shift gave a feeling of "slipping" which led to this action by Nissan. (That's my take on it)" -ends-

I will attempt to verify this through other sources.
