Hi:
I have a 2000 Maxima (auto) and a 99 Camry (auto V6)....it seems to me that camry is faster in accelerating. Camry has 196hp @ 5700rpm while Maxima has 222hp @ 6400rpm, plus Maxima is a lot more heavier than Camry. Well, I felt that Camry is more spontaneous in accelerating than my Maxima or maybe I am not yet used to the heavier gas pedal of Maxima (camry's gas pedal is really really light and loose....design for elders????)

ps Camry auto V6 0-60mph is 7.6 sec
Maxima auto v6 0-60mph is approx 8 sec

thanks

Is there a question here? I'm having trouble understanding what you're saying. Your Camry's faster than your Maxima?
I'm happy for you!!

I've driven a 1995 Camry V6 XLE a couple of times. While the engine rating for that year was 188 versus 190 for a similar year Maxima, I did notice the Camry had a very light throttle. Overall though the engines are very similar in smoothness and acceleration.

I don't think much has changed over the years for either engines...except I think you'll find the new 2000 Maxima engines will probably out accelerate a comprable Camry in 0-100 even if it seems a Camry will beat it 0-60. That's because of the better breathing and exhaust improvements made to MY 2000+ Maximas

Road&Track's recent comparo of Camry, Accord, and Maxima had the Maxima out accelerating both cars in 0-60, 0-100, and 1/4 mile.

Every car that comes of the factory has production variances...on top of that acceleration times can vary on quality/octane of gas, tire pressure, altitude, mileage of the engine, etc.

The lighter Camry probably gives the feeling of being faster (altho' the numbers don't lie.) In my experience, you really feel the benefits of one of the world's "ten best engines" at around 45 mph and up through "Autobahn speeds." The Camry does a good job in 0-30 urban traffic. The loose pedal is definitely a Toyota thing. Nissan's tend to have a more precision feel.
