I have a 1999 Maxima with a very costly Bose system that is driving nuts. When I play CDs (like Toni Braxton lastest)I hear this annoying crackling noise that won't go away. I have change My CDs several times and I don't hear that noise when I play the same CDs elsewhere. Nissan service is unwilling or unable to rectify the problem and I'm still under warranty. Question, is there anyone out there who has had or is having this same problem that I'am experiencing

Have you tried going to another dealer?

When does the crackling noise occur? During slience or while the music is playing?

I have a 99 Max with Bose and have had no problems.

Hey the crackling is usually natrual for bose the 2001 one Pathfinder with the bose system does the same things with certain cd's...It's just that bose picks up every little thing

Yeah, the Boss system is hypersensitive, I've heard sound from my CD's that normally i don't pick up. So it's just the Quality of your speakers.

Yeah but, Toni Braxton, is that your girlfriend's CD?? :P

I don't understand? what do you mean that it's natural for the Bose. I have called Bose corporation and explained my situation and they're not happy, to say the least that one Nissan dealer told me that the noise is a characteristic of the Bose system. it sound like a problem with the 99 and 98 systems

Go to a dealer and try playing the same CD in:
1) Another 98-99 Maxima with Bose (they will definitely have a couple, new or used);
2) Any 98-99 Maxima without Bose;
3) 2000 Maxima with Bose.

If you don't hear noise in 1), than it's a problem with your particular car. 2) and 3) are just a reference comparison.

I'm the person with the Bose system problem, to answer they many questions that were asked.
I have gone to the dealers with the CDs and I have tried playing the CDs in other Maximas.
At the dealer with one of the representative
listening,as well as the manager, we went to four different cars in the lot. A ,98, 99 & two 2000 and we heard the noise in all except the 2000s. The dealer concluded that the noise is charateristic of the Bose system. I have also called Bose Corporation and explained the situation and they were not please that the Nissan dealer told me that the excess noise is a charateristic of my sterio. I can believe that that's normal

It looks like, as programmers say, it's not a bug, it's a feature http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/images/icons/frown.gif

Your options:
1) Buy another car;
2) Stop listening Toni Braxton in the car;
3) Do everything an you do now and continue suffering.

Hey mpa...
Just curious... when you play your cd, do you have your cell phone with you that is turned on?? I have a 96se with Bose as well... and everytime when my cell phone is on... the Bose will create this loud and stupid cracking noise like every minute. I have a motorola i1000 phone... I have tried using my phone on my friends' lexus and hondas... Their stereos don't have that cracking sound like the Bose... and I had also tried using my sister's Nokia cell phone on my car... but there was no noise at all... So I think the Bose will make that kind of noise with some specific phones like mine...or yours...
Maybe this can give you a clue on the problem...

Actually, it isn't my fault. I've asked a psychic what you should do with your misery, and that was his answer http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/images/icons/wink.gif

i have a 90 maxima and it *had* the bose system. and it did the same thing. and it would not go away. no matter what i did. it just persisted. so i took it out!! (the factory bose system is not 'compatible' with any other system, i found out. the ohms and all that crap do not match) so i put in polk audio and kenwood stuff; and an amp under the seat.... much better.

So.. does that mean that you had to paid out of your own packet to replace your system, because I'm still under warranty. You know something, I can't believe that so many people have this problem and no one is saying anything. It seems like I'm the only one that it(that crackling noise) annoys. I would think that if someone pays her/his hard earn cash for a product that's suppose to be the "best" she shouldn't get mediocre.. well actually it's crappy

Hey the BOSE audio system is the best for being factory installed. That system is the bomb. My mom had a 97 GLE with BOSE and it didn't have the noise when we first bought it. But after a year it got it. Second keep the treble down/ a little past have way and you won't hear the crackle that much. My mom just a 2001 Pathfinder LE 3.5 with BOSE and when she plays Toni Braxton's Heat cd it crackles so it's natural. And yes if you wanna change your system to aftermarket you can with Bose. It's very difficult you gotta know how to mess with Ohms.So you gotta take it to an expert audio tech.Oh and a word of advice is if you do go after market go with A Rockford Fosgate or Polk Audio/Momo component speakers the are the best compatible. Good Lucck

mpa... where do you live???
There are so many things that could be making that crackling noise, so it would be extremely hard to pinpoint what the problem is... but how long have you had the system??? and the crackling noise... is it coming from the tweeters or the mid driver? when I had my 99 Max with Bose, I had the bass turned up a little over half way... 1 o'clock and trebel at around 2 o'clock and I listen to a lot of R&B including Toni Braxton... not to mention a lot of cheaply recorded CDs... but I hardly had a break up until I cranked up the volume over 3/4 of the way...

SpeedyNissan,
I really appreciate you taking the time to try and help, but I have a problem with the statement you made. You said that because the Bose system is the "Best" that it's NATURAL to hear an excess noise. How is that natural?
think about it, I paid top dollars for a system that's the "Best" so that I could hear an extra annoying crackling noise. I don't get it. Yes I do lower the tremble as you mentioned, but I shouldn't have to, otherwise the system should have come with instructions not to play CDs with high tremble and high bass, which really don't make any sense

Thank you for responding

I live in Brooklyn NY. I have had this system for a little over a year, but the problem came with my 99.5 Maxima. The noise that I hear is not just from Toni Braxton's CDs, it's any CD with an up beat sound. I've purchased the same duplicate CDs at Tower Records and the Wiz and Columbia House and they all make the same frustrating crackling noise. Oh by the way the radio and tape do not display the noise, imaging that you cannot enjoy your favorite music
