NEW YORK AUTO SHOW
Honda to sell version of Dog Friendly Element this fall
April 8, 2009 -- When Honda revealed the WOW (Wonderful Open-hearted Wagon) concept car at the 2005 Tokyo motor show, the response from dog owners was overwhelming.
Features such as the dedicated dog ventilation ducts, open cabin and in-dash compartment to hold small dogs resonated with the dog loving public.
With an estimated 74.8 million dogs in the United States, Honda is bringing a canine catering vehicle closer to production reality with the New York auto show debut of the Dog Friendly Element concept.
The concept adds a number of Fido-friendly features such as a cushioned bed in the cargo area, pet restraint systems for the second row and cargo space, a rear ventilation fan and a spill-resistant water bowl.
In addition, there's an extendable ramp out back for easy pet access, rubber floor mats with toy bone pattern and dog pattern second-row seat covers.

With these features, together with the Element's easily cleanable urethane floor, Honda hopes to cash in on the lucrative pet market that was valued by the American Pet Products Manufacturers Association at more than $43 billion last year.
Pet components still need to finalized, but a production version of the Dog Friendly Element will go on sale this fall.
