from what i've read the engine for our Z (US) will be a VQ35DE tuned to 300 horsepower

I've heard the same thing about our version of the Z. Its supposed to have the VQ35DE with variable valve timing putting out 300hp NA. I don't think the RB would find its way into the new Z particularly because its the Skyline motor and the Z is supposed to be as far separated from Skyline anyways. Plus the RB series of engines are going to be retired along with the SR series of engines because as much as we may love them they are showing age (10+ years already).

Hey you peeps make such a big deal about the VQ not handling the boost from a turbo... My ass. THE VQ IS THE WORLD'S BEST V6. It can handle anything. Secondly the VQ 3.5 with 300+ will be enough for the average person. Last, the if you'll want to have more power then just supercharge it.l Superchargers are better anyways that have no turbo lag.

You can choose between parasitic drag and get the Supercharger or Turbolag and get a turbocharger. Both have their advantages and disadvantages so its depending on your own standpoint really. They never said it won't handle boost from a turbo, it just won't handle as much insane boost as an iron block engine could. My preference is turbo though, I like being able to control the boost via a boost controller rather than having to go in and swap pulleys.

Modern day turbos do not have "turbo lag" of the yesteryears'... very very minimal at the most... unless you have a freakin' super-size turbo and a small tiny engine... haha

Well, according to the Japanese magazines, it is Turbo. The are many reasons why I say they should a L6 motor in there.
1) Easy of maintenence. I don't know how many of you have owned a Z32 or a Z31 for that matter, very cramped. Take a look at a GTR, at lot less cramped, way easier to work on. If you don't work on it, it serves my point even better, less hassle at the dealer ship means less labor costs. Again Z 32 owners. I know I will never buy a Z32 TT just because how cramped it is. I like changing my own turbos, water pumps lines, etc.
2) The motor in question (RB series) has been R&D already. Reduce the costs od R&D, reduce cost of the car, a common gaoal.
3) If you want all out power, there are RB 25, yes 25 pushing the 600 horse mark, also the last itineration of the RB Tranny (R33/R34 model Skyline GTS25T) Trannys hold 600 horse.
40 Crank the boost down, and the weight, the Z car with 250 horse at 2800-3000 pounds should be quick enough for the masses.
Enough said......

Well I have a 97 VW GTI I had a HKS turbo and that had the worst turbo lag ever so a switched to a supercharger and it worked like a charm so I am sticking to superchargers

the insurance rates for a NA Z should be lower than if it were turbo. at least i would think

Come on, you're comparing the turbo on a small 4-banger with a turbo on big V-6!
Another thing is that a lot depends on how the turbo is tuned; what the boost is and what RPMs it is at.

To assume that all turbo applications are laggy is silly. Their spool up properties are dependant on how efficient the turbo is (ball bearing turbos are better than the older bushing variety), the size of the housing and the velocity and volume of the exhaust gas spooling it up. For optimum spool up the turbo needs to be as close to the engine's exhaust port as possile.... So the bottom line is that it all depends on the size and tuning of the turbo kit. If you do something stupid like mount a T78 turbine with a .70 housing on a 2.0L 4 cyl, of course you are going to be in lagville.

Yup, insurance rates would definitely be alot cheaper for a NA car vs. turbo. Its like once you mention turbo the price just goes up.
