OK, # 1, Why even bring up the idea? Well I thougt it was a valid point, the engine is cheap, used in many cars, can pump the HP.

#2 Who said it cannot be converted to LHD??? The RB 25 is single turbo. Down pipe can be reverted somewhere else I am sure, Look @ FC/FD series where is there ex mani??? Right side. Have you ever seen an RB??

# 3 The engine would keep the price down, no reenginnering efforts for the motor, no r and D costs.
I know the RB is aging, but it is getting better and better all the time. Very smooth, well the RB 26 is at least. I have a 1990 GTR in Okinawa Japan, among other cars. And anyways, they used the L series motor for 15 years.

1. It may be cheap, but Nissan needs to plan ahead because US auto emmission restrictions are not going be any less stringent anytime soon.

2. Even if it could be converted to LHD, it makes more sense to use a mid mounted V6 for better balance. Simply shoving an engine into any chassis just will not work, you are changing the cars balance and CG for better or worse (most like always worse).

3. The new engine is developed on the new global FR platform. The basic design will be shared with future Skylines, Z's, XVL, etc. That is more cost effective than having an engine engineered for a specific chassis like the RB series are. The RB is an open deck design and its time is passing, the overall package that the RB delivers is inferior to the VQ line of engines, especially the turbo'd VQ.

the VQ is used worldwide and a 3.5 L unit already exists. it shouldn't be too expensive to use that engine in the Z car. along with platform sharing, the Z could prove to be profitable

I didn't see this until today, and dacman and nsuguy pretty much posted what I believe. I understand why someone would want the RB over the VQ. The RB is an awesome engine, and I have read the stories of how the RB can be tuned for mountains of horsepower. But the VQ is unproven in a sports car, and if it can do in the Z what it does in the Maxima, a 3.5 liter VQ should be awesome. Besides, rumor has it that the R35 Skyline GT-R is dumping the RB engine anyway.
