It's funny, I never wanted to start a comparison, but it ended out to be a war of sorts. You have to remember, the GTR is sort of a cult car, and I can honestly say there is nothing else for me. I will buy the R35 is it is V8 with 4wd. I love the smoothness of everything, not very much drama, like a 1986 Toyota Corolla AE 86 even with just a supercharger, much less a turbo.

I love all cars, and if I listed all the cars I have had (and still have), most would think I am bragging, or even lying. I have been accused of playing Grand Turismo too much.

The fact of the matter is, I have been an import, specifically, a Japanese car enthusiest since I was 4,(my dad had an RX-3) I am now 27. I have been into motorsports personally since I was 15. I have done everything from gymkana, dirt trail (rally), drifting, and finally 0-400 meters.

Saying this, I also work on all my cars, and others as well. I choose my cars very carefully, minus all my 4wd cars (Familia BFMR, D27a Talon, RNN14 Pulsar GTIR.) I am hard on them too, so it would be way to expensive of a hobby to be into if someone else was doing the repairs.

In event the GTR is too hard to work on, however; it isn't in the cards for me. I will settle for a "saishugata R34" and keep the R32 too, and maybe bring it to my dad's house in North Carolina just to sit. I regret selling all the cars I have had, but the memories, and pictures are still there. I am very nosalgic, maybe that was the reason for my suggestion to do a inline six, you just can't beat the torque of a inline 6, although the RB isn't the torquiest.

The GTR is truly a nice car, it's hard to explain, I will submit a post of what I wrote my friend on a catch up race I had, meaning I let them go way before I went, it is scary when the fastest car you ever had was a tie between a 16G 2.1 liter Talon, and a Sport turboed FC 3S (koki of course).

Gas milage is pretty bad, about 5km/liter. 72 liter tank. About 75 bucks to fill her up every 4 days. I bought other cars because the gas was so much. At 105 yen a liter for hi oc, it's ****ty, but I have other cars, Starlet Turbo EP82, and a Charger 86.My plans are to give those to my bro when they are able to drive.

Carson, omae nihongin nano ka? Okinawa no hito ka? Ima america de shigote yateiru dakado. Anata wa doko ni irundesuka?

VQ http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/images/icons/grin.gif

Z will blow everything in its price category even with the NA VQ. And even though I like the whistle of turbo, VQ will mean better fuel economy, weight distribution (on front-engined car); maybe, better driveability (I don't know how does the torque curve look on RB).

Another question to Eric: what is a typical lifetime for a car in Japan ??? How many kilometers do they usually run before getting their last trip to junk yard ???

I love the RB engine, it has a fantastic sound, but I think it's time is up, you can only develop an engine for so long before it must be replaced, the VQ easily outperforms all eqivalent RB engines (not including the RB26DETT of course) while managing to be smoother and an equally sweet engine note. the VQ has to be the choice for the Z car.

my vote goes for the VQ35 also. it's aluminum which will reduce weight, it's a new engine, beloved by the press, and has good potential for tuning. insurance rates are lower for NA cars as well. being that the engine is a mass produced world engine should lower costs. all of these reasons should make for a profitable Z.

I am looking into putting an rb26dett engine into a 95 300zx. I then plan to put an rb30 conversion kit to make it out to a 3.0 liter. I was wondering if any of you knew of any conflicts this might impose? Any special body mods I would have to do to get it to fit? Also, how easy would it be to make the 300zx awd? If you have significant information on this please email me at lookxdontxtouch@yahoo.com

excuse my newbie ignorance, but isn't the VQ all aluminum while the RB is cast-iron?

so shouldn't the RB be able to handle turbo's and higher boost better?

he was talking about new cars...
90-94 DSMs aren't made anymore... and you're lucky if you can modify an AWD (the only one worth modding) without having the center diff blow up on you...

not to mention its mitsubishi and chrysler reliability; which according to JD Power&associates, both of them rank lower than a Ford

and we're talking about competing with big dog cars here; not the little subcompact Civic crowd... which the DSMs DO dominate; but they won't touch a REAL turbocar... now imagine a VQ35 making 300hp as Motortrend swears up and down that it makes... imagine that with a turbo or two... hello, 500hp isn't far away...
we won't even go near styling images/icons/wink.gif

As far as putting a RB series motor in the Z32 chassis, it can be done but its expensive because you also need engine management to work with like a Haltech computer or something... and AWD in a Z is out of the question because of engine placement... don't even bother thinking about it; unless you want to jack the car up to look like a 4x4 images/icons/smile.gif
and if you've got about $100k to spend on mods
just buy a Supra or import a skyline, it will save you a lot of headache on a car that doesn't have a chassis made for that kind of power (anti-squat geometry=wheelspin)
