In several places on the internet I have read that Nissan has already decided to use thr R390's 3.5liter V8 for the R35 GT-R. Is this true?
Because if it is I think that Nissan has made a BIG mistake.
Just think what comes to your minde first when you think of the word "Skyline GT-R"?
Isn't it the PERFECT 2.6 liter engine that can pump out over 1000 horses?
I think that this engine is what has made GT-R stand out of the croud.
Skyline GT-R has the tiniest engine and it beats all those 3.5 liter and 4 liter super cars.
I think that Nissan should leave the engine alone. Or just tweak it a little to give more torque or something.
I read the same thing and this is how I understand it. Since Z car will be reintroduced it will be taking 6cyl engine category therefore they have to move it up to 8 and Slivia in the 4cyl category. Also, the same your Aura NSX will also be 8 cyl to compete the Skyline. I think Nissan is leaving Turbo charged engines, I read some where in two years even Slivia will no longer be turbo charged. On one hand I am very sad the way Nissan is going; on the other hand, there is always after market turbo charger kits.

The V8 thing is really unknown at this point.
The RB26DETT is a dead motor...long live the king.
There is a replacement for displacement...its called twin turbos.

Twin Turbos Do Kick AZZ, thus when the Skyline comes here and sells for 70K-90K. Twin Turbos, and the V8 will sell the car. No one here will spend (at least not a lot of people) 90K on 2.6L engine. SO god bless Nissan for putting the 3.5 V8 TT, in there cause i've heard they might put in a NA 4.5L engine in there http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/images/icons/blush.gif.

Uhhh... A Porsche site? Well, yes and no. It is a US Porsche site with not pics of new GTR, but of Carrera GT.
Very well designed and very~~~ powerful. I just hope people at Nissan in charge of R35 take it into heart in
making something that will....
blow this Porsche away with a little
sigh, and say,
it is not money that always talks. http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/images/icons/tongue.gif

Someone: Please tell me that this is not true... http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/images/icons/frown.gif

Yes Unfortunately it's true, i think it is time for it to go though, it's 11 years old now, better for it to retire at its peak than to soldier on.

How about a completely new INLINE-8 for the GT-R?
No one has done that.
Maybe it could even be better than the 2.6 lite inline-6 http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/images/icons/smile.gif

tennisboy, plenty of companies have made straight eight's - but i don't know of a production version since the 40's or so.
chrysler put straight eight's in a couple concept cars about five years ago (atlantic and phaeton, both of which look INCREDIBLE).
the problem with a straight eight is that it's huge. it's kinda hard to package an engine that's four feet long, know what i mean?
edit: actually the phaeton had a v12... but, here's a pic of the atlantic for those who care http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/images/icons/wink.gif http://www.car-truck.com/image/chryed/concept/95/atlantic.jpg

hey pauli,
i meant "no one has that".
...Damn.... that chrysler does look pretty good.
But don't you wish that gt-r would stick to its 2.6 inline 6?
I sure do.
