I've heard many say that you shouldn't baby your engine when you break it in or else it'll become "weak" later on...I've also heard people tell me not to push the engine too hard during the break in period? So could you nice people explain to me the right way to break in a car? Thanks

This is my break in period for my '97 S14:

999 miles then I switch to synthetic Mobile 1 and went racing... http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum//images/icons/smile.gif

Modern engines are built such that they will fire right up immediately after assembly. Also the use of break in oil is no longer true. But nontheless, just drive it normal and not beat on it. Don't try to bounce off the rev limiter with 5 miles on the clock...

Also try not to keep at only one rpm. Need to let all the components work up to temperature and seat itself properly.

From what I remember from my owner's manual:

For the first 1000 miles, you should keep under 55 mph, and refrain from traveling at a constant RPM for too long (that's why no freeway, because ur almost always keeping the engine at the same RPM). I know the break in oil is not as important as it used to be, but I still would suggest using a natural oil (I've heard that natural based oils help wear in the seals properly and bond with some of the chemicals in the seals). After 1000 miles, you can switch to your favorite racing synthetic, and cruise at any RPM you wish. (Oh you can tow stuff too). Hope this helps.
