View Full Version : How do you compare the Sentra to the VW Jetta?

The Sentra does have better engines in terms of reliability and power. Only the VR6 can spank the Sentra. The 1.8T is a good fight for the 2.0L SE. The interior is not up to par with the Jetta. Thinking of purchasing later on this year the Sentra or Jetta as a second car. Any suggestions and comments? http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum//images/icons/smile.gif

Well, the Jetta is very, but VERY cramped in the back. it depends on your needs. It is also much more expensive than a Sentra. But with that, you get that special thing called german engineering, which translates to a very driver-oriented car. Other than that the Jetta is very comfortable in the front and the interior setup is very nice. The Sentra is an economy car. After all that, what would I get? probably the 1.8T Jetta GLS. But the decision would still be very hard because of price. What you get in the Sentra for the price is a hell of a lot better than what you get in the Jetta. Wait i change my mind, i want a loaded Sentra SE. No wait i change it back! Hehe test drive both of em http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum//images/icons/smile.gif

There's a major comparo in the latest Motor Trend. (June or July edition.) Sentra holds its own and then some.

Well my friend is looking for a car and I mentioned the new Jetta. Well like he said its hit or miss with a VW. You either get a car thats going to run for 400,000 miles with one oil change or you are getting a lemon and have to have it worked on all the time. That german eng. is great for a good feeling car but their reliability is little to be desired IMHO.

Also consider with the gas prices as they are, that the sentra uses regular while the jetta uses premium. Right now thats alot of $$$$ difference.

The Jetta doesn't take premium. The 1.8T does but the 2.0L doesn't. I test drove both and the Jetta had more bodyroll. Different feel then the Sentra. Guess you call it the "German Feel." Dollar for dollar, the Sentra is the better bet with greater reliability. I went on the vwvortex site and just saw numerous problems with the owners of Jettas. I might delay till the SE-R comes out or I'll just take the SE now. The only features I like on the Jetta is the interior and the brakes. Great brakes and great braking capability. Most importantly, there both built in Mexico so why would I pay that much more for the Jetta? http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/images/icons/smile.gif

Has everyone forgotten the reliability problems of VW just a few years ago? If it wasnt for the Slug Bug in 98 they would have pulled out of this country by now.Im not falling for their pretty bodystyles and "cute" commercials.. Get a Sentra.
