Ok, in terms of speed (i mean, 0-60, 1/4 mile, top speed) which of the following cars would you pick, and exactly how does the Sentra SE fair against them?? C'mon, use authoritative figures to prove your argument.

1. Sentra SE 5. Integra GS
2. Celica GT 6. Tiburon
3. Eclipse RS 7. Miata
4. Civic SI

Top 3?? Best, worse??

My top three:

Sentra SE 16.6 1/4 mile
Celica GT 16.5 1/4 mile
Tiburon 16.0 1/4 mile ?? (Strange #)
Slowest:

Miata 17.2 1/4 mile

I'd pick the one with the most doors.

My personal picks are:

1. Sentra SE
2. Celica GT
3. Civic Si
4. Integra GS

But based purely on speed, the list changes:

1. Civic Si
2. Sentra SE
3. Celica GT
4. Integra GS

P.S.: My newly beloved Integra GS-R would be at the top of that list, but to be fair, the GS-R would have to be compared to different cars (Prelude, Mustang, etc.).

Seems pretty fair to me. Apparently the Sentra SE should be in the top 2 based purely on speed. The one thing I wanted to know...what info do you guys have on 1/4 mile times for the unmodified Civic SI?? What about the Sentra SE?? Celica GT??

Well dolllar for dollar you are probaly going to get a better car and more performance out of the Sentra, followed closely by *gasp* the Civic SI. The SE is still big IMHO (Im a classic se-r owner) the engine makes up for it a bit. It made me think of my se-r when I drove it. Really nice performance but dont like that lower redline.

the SI is tne next bet cause its so cheap and high performance. The mods are out there to make it pretty quick. I still they they are slow and hate the styleing myself. But for cheap you get decent performance.

To me, a few tenths difference here and there doesn't matter so much to me as my personal impressions of the car (in terms of style, ergonomics and driving)

Out of that group, I'd have to say:

1) Celica GT (The most sporty styling, good dynamics...its new...)
2) Integra Gs (The refreshenings have kept it contemporary, but its still getting long in the tooth...But I still like the round headlights....)
3) Eclipse (Sporty styling, but it still looks a little too wierd for me...)
3) Sentra SE (If they come out with a coupe and some ground effects I might change my mind here...)
4) Civic Si (everyone and their dog has one...its not THAT fast. C'mon, the 240SX has only five less horespower and nearly 50 ft-lbs more max torque But they do look pretty tasteful).
5) Tiburon (semi-goofy styling)
6) Miata (one word: convertible)

But, in terms of utility, Sentra goes on top...(four doors)

16.6 for the sentra Se is wrong!!! 15.9 at 86 mph is right. 7.6-7.9 0-60 also. Dunno where you got that info but that just made it look bad!

15.9??? I guess you timed it yourself, right?? Well, thats extremely fast. I got that number from Edmunds road tests 16.6 @ 84.5.

If so, 15.9 is an awesome number, can anyone back that up??

If thats true, how fast is the Civic SI then??

One thing to remember. Did you guys know that the rear brakes of the Celica GT are drums, yes that is right DRUMS.

anyway to back up some of the sentra SE numbers.

Driver, temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure, wind speed and direction, pavement conditions, etc. are all factors to consider. So it's really hard to separate 1/4 mile times in the same ballpark unless they were both done at the same track at same time.

I guess if someone came along with enough cash and eccentricity, then an indoor test facility could be built where these conditions could be controlled. Even then, you'd probably still get people arguing over the times... must be human nature.

Anyway, the 1/4 mile times published by the reputable car magazines are still a good guide as long as you're not splitting hairs. Doesn't Road & Track publish a long list of performance specs/times at the back of each issue?

I don't recall what magazine it was but it was when it 1st came out. 15.9

The Celica has rear drums?!? That's screwed up. Oh well, I wouldn't buy one anyway because they look too futuristic to me. I like the styling inside and out of the new Sentra, but I would want a two door (but maybe the new SE-R would make up for the extra doors!). As Nismo said Road & Track publishes times at the end of every issue, and Car & Driver is starting to do that now too.

Does anybody else here hate the styling of the Tiburon (with the screwed up looking quad headlights)?

Are you looking to buy NX1600-Puerto_Rico? If you are looking to buy, and want the fastest Sentra possible, wait two months or so for the new SE-R. The new SE-R will probably be like a mini-Maxima. Waiting would probably be your best option, especially if you have to have an automatic transmission like you said in a different post.

Well, nobody in their right minds should by just the base GT model -- anyways if you're gonna buy a sports car, at least save up the Mc'Donald's paychecks and get the GT-S.

I think it has pretty nice seats, and with what one of those car mags said, at the Long Beach rally with 17" wheels & a few TRD parts to lower, the entire Celica GT-S suddenly became very tight and tossable. A very good alternative to an Integra Type-R, IMO.

My pick based on the styling (with the exterior color)
1. Yello Tiburon : It Looks like it is carved by wind. I really like the shape and the color of the tail light, especially the white inserts on top of the taillight. There are total of 10 lights in front!!! and Interior looks just like Audi TT(good or bad you decide).

2. black eclipse : It would been my first choice if its taillight wasn't wierd looking. I wish they have put some other color(white) too instead making it all red. I really like the side view of this car. Interior is too plain for me.

3. Silver Miata : It's got beautiful body line that also look like it's been carved by wind, but I like Tiburon's better because miata looks kinda cute rather than sporty. I love the taillight! Did anyone notice that round ring appears within the taillight when the light is reflected on it? Looks good with top up/down. Interior is kinda plain.

4. White Celica : I would love the silver one too but there are too many of them on the road. I like the whole edgy theme on the front. It makes it look very aggresive and futuristic. Interior looks nice and futuristic(again). I really don't like the rear. It seems like they were short on plastic material when they were designing the taillight. (or the ideas).

5. Blue Civic Si: Let me just say I like the COLOR. I do think it is sporty. But there are too many of them out there. Interior looks too similiar to ..hmm let me see... other non-Si CIVICS.

6. Grey(?) Sentra Se: My guess is Nissan try to make this car un-offensive to everyone and changed its mind very last minute and made taillight look depressed. Looks OK with spoilers though. Front is clean looking. Interior is so so.

7. You pick the color Integra: I would buy this just so that I can replace the taillight with Lexus Is300 looking one, and change the Acura badge to the one with yellow back ground. what can I say? Seems like All of my friends drive this one, it's very hard to tell which one is mine without making some modification.

My pick based on performance:
1. Skyline GT-R(oops not on the list)
2. Eclipse GT(I think it is about fast and handles well as Celica but smoother 0-60:7.0 sec g:0.81)
3. Integra GS-R(I think this one also is about fast and handles well as Celica 0-60:7.2 g:0.81)
4. Celica GT-s(A bit too noisy for me, I heard that GT-s's got killer brake 0-60:7.2 g:0.86)
5. Civic SI (Don't ask me 0-60:7.2 g:0.80)
6. Miata (From what I hear about this car it handles like what sports car should, very noisy for... hey wait it is convertible 0-60:7.6 g:0.88)
7. Sentra Se (mini maxima they say.. very good performance for money The brake is quite good too 0-60:7.9 g:0.82)
8. Tiburon (Good handling and quite responsive with manual but not enough power and noisy engine 0-60:8.1 g:0.84)

Then again the numbers are based on Car and driver but I didn't had chance to drive Miata, Sentra SE, Celica GT(-s) and CIvic SI. So I don't know How it actually drive http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/images/icons/cool.gif.
