ok, my friend has an 83 sentra. it's... a vehicle. i'm wondering if anyone knows what can be easily done to improve the performance.
right now it says it has an e16 engine (there might be an s after that, i'm not certain). 2bbl carb. it's got newish wheels/tires/shocks (the previous owner worked at a wheel/tire/shock/battery place).
the biggest performance mod so far is that yesterday while we were working on it (needed a new thermostat, which somehow ended up taking over 48 man hours to replace), i flipped the air cleaner cover over. it still seals over the filter, but now air can slip in around the top edge.
it's a fun car to drive (in much the same way as a clown car), and the more you look at it the funnier it gets...
anyway, back to the topic: any easy mods?

Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure there arent any aftermarket hop up parts for this car, let alone OEM factory parts. If you want to make it go fast, you might have to resort to good ole fashioned intuition and ingenuity. (did I spell that right?) If higher performance is what you seek, you might want to consider stepping up to a used 92-94 SE-R.

damn... oh well. i guess we'll stick to bolting on whatever strange things we can find and trying to get the damn thing to stop running rich...
anybody know how hard it might be to rebuild that carb? particularly since neither of us has done such a thing before...

Well, your friend is in luck. The Pulsar (Sentra twin) had a Turbo charged engine (E15T ?) from 83 to 85 (may be different in the US due to model years). He should be able ot drop it in, and put some more HP in the car.

The pulsars in the US werent Sentra twins, but they did share the same drive train I believe. The US unfortunately never got the turbo charged version of the Pulsar.

Check again. If Canada got them (we never get anything) the US definately got them. Remember, I'm not talking about the last Pulsar sold year (otherwise known as the EXA elsewhere), I'm talking about the pulsar sold here from 1983 through 1985. I had an 84, with the carb engine. A friend had an 84 with the factory turbo.
