Not only does the Sentra have leather option in Taiwan, it also gets the GPS option - and it fits right into that wierd flip-open, dash-top storage bin US buyers look at strangely -- just like the dash-top GPS unit on the US Infiniti I30!

Another US-no-show is the HUD (heads-up-display) previously found in the prior US sport coupe models, displaying the speed right on the windshield itself!

Missing as well is the futuristic rear-view mirror, cell phone-number-called display, with steering wheel mounted cell phone controls.

Finally, that nifty 1800cc engine that we're still waiting for...

Besides that, IMO, much better exterior styling with cues to the I30 on the tail, and a much more aggressive Lincoln/G20-like front end.

Sigh....the foreign markets actually get a far better Sentra than we'll ever see....

David =)

yea. i understand your concern. But hey, Nissan can give you all that, but with a sticker price higher then what it is right now. And keep in mind that Sentra is an entry level compact sedan and not a luxury entry level compact sedan. Now having said that, i do believe that Infiniti G20 should provide leather, HUD and GPS as an option. Just my 02 cents.

I think that the idea of giving the current sentra here in North America the look of the Sentra in Taiwan would not be a bad idea. I dont necessarily care about the leather and all that other stuff - I wouldn't get it, even if I had the option of getting it.

I do believe that despite the better front looks of the new Sentra, the back of it just looks terrible, it looks like the back of a small saturn! whatever the model name it is...

Nissan should really consider making this car considerable better looking, if they want to see the Nissan nameplate in more garages than they see now. I mean, the 2001 Sentra styling has been around for a long time now, yet you don't see many of them right now, and that is because they look funny in the back. On the other hand you see lots of new Civics and new Corollas, and I am sure that this has lots to do with the styling of the car. Civics and Corollas just simply look better in the back than Sentras.

Even with the sport package, you can not get arround the rounded cartoonish look of the back of the Sentra, which makes it hard for people to see this powerfull little vehicle as a such, thus opting for Hondas instead, even when they know that he Sentra is the better value.

Nissan should yust do a test and release a Sentra that looks like the one in Taiwan here in North America, and I bet people will forget the names Honda and Toyota. The car is sooooo good looking that the attractive price of the Sentra would make it impossible to resist. Besides it isn't like Nissan has to do lots of modifications to the car itself; they already have the interior of the Sentra NA, and the sheet metal, so I say do all of us a favor, do you guys at Nissan a favor and just give this look a chance!!!!

I want that steering wheel! I know a kid in PA with on he got from Nis-Knacks. His is a darker greyish color and it matches the interior of his 98 SE. I also got to drive it and it feels nice.

I'd actually go for the Sentra 180 with leather, gps, cell phone package, heads up display, and all myself if it were available in the USA today.

I've looked at the G20, but unfortunately, it's a rather old body, and it's heavier than I'd want it to be.

I would love to have a luxury subcompact like they've had for years in Japan and Taiwan, and hate the larger sedans that are so heavy to toss about even after an engine upgrade. (Not to mention, it's far easier here in CA to park and squirt a tiny subcompact around the parking lot and freeways vs. those impossible to find a parking space Expeditions.)

Oh well, I guess I'll do what most Nissan owners do today -- sit and wait for Nissan to wake up in terms of styling and features, or just get it over with by buying the competition. (eep! even that tinsy Civic that's gotten it's front end suspension ripped out and replaced by a strut has a cooler looking shifter - esp. those automatics)

It's not like they have to make them in the 180 model first -- I'd even wait a few months to get a special order built and delivered if they sold any here in the US.

Guys, this is not a Sentra at all. I guess that it is badged ass a Sentra in Taiwan. It is the new Bluebird sylphy launched about 4 months ago here in Japan. I posted some good pics for you guys of the front, back, and nameplate. This car has the new QR20DE in it and it makes like 155HP! I hope that our sentra SE-R is going to get the 2.5L version. I have a feeling that the new SE-r may be a version of this.

On the gray background you can get a better view of the nameplate.

Actually, it's the Sentra... Nissan decided to kill the Sunny name and use some thing more appropriate for a car that is no longer a compact but something larger.

It was on sale back in March of 2000 in Taiwan. That's when I originally posted a listing to the taiwan web site. It was on sale before it was on sale in Japan. The TW version does not have the new QR20DE, only the 1.6 and 1.8 engine.

This Sentra, US Sentra, and Bluebird Slyphy are all on the same platform, the new MS or small car platform according to the Nissan Revival program.

And in NZ it is called the Pulsar and comes only with the 1.6L. Which is disturbingly underpowered IMHO - I had one for a day as a loan car and it seemed far less responsive than the previous model Pulsar (N15). Maybe it is heavier??
