Although most of this we have all heard before this article said that the R35 should be released in December 2003 which is a long time from now. They said that the report was confirmed by Nissan. please check out the link below and tell me what u think.

Some parts of the article were a bit surprising. It's nice to know that the R35 picture we are so familiar with may very well be the next GT-R. Everyone's been wondering if the next GT-R would be released here, and this article indirectly suggests that it'll happen (the mention of an LHD version, a V8 for "international" markets, and the design teams in Japan, Europe, AND the United States favoring the design we are now so familiar with). Maybe it isn't news to some of you, but it definitely is to me. http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/images/icons/wink.gif

Oh my goodness I hope this is a factual article. I have been wishing/waiting for this for a long time. Hopefully, if it comes out here in 2003, I will have enough to buy one. This news makes my day.

I just noticed, this article is actually from November 2000! Yet, I have never seen this before, I thought at first it was new news!? Now I am totally confused. Is this still the current information regarding the R35, or has this information changed now? I always new the R35 was a concept, but didn't know it has become a serious possibly for production. I need input! http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/images/icons/confused.gif

Is that a typo, where they say an "eight speed automatic"? Also 300kW comes out to about 410hp so man this thing is gonna whoop some ass!!!

I dont really understand what you mean by a concept. The R35 is simply the next generation GTR.

No the part about the eight speed automatic is not i typo I have seen another article with that information. Also the next Gt-R is rumored to have 450hp or upwards.

Could someone please explain to me the advantage of an 8 speed automatic? That's unheard of! The standard is typically 6-speed manual or 5-speed automatic. Where did Nissan come up with 8-speed? Are there any other vehicles with higher than 6-speed automatic transmissions?

Everywhere else it's a concept, when did it become the next GTR?

The reason why Nissan have a 6 speed or 8 speed automatic transmission is because the transmission they are using is a constinously variable ratio transmission, CVT. Because of that, the transmission technically have an infinite range of gear ratios. So the designers basically picked 8 physical ratio out of the infinite range, and made preset points for the tranny. So under normal operation, the tranny acts in the CVT mode. Once you push the tranny into the sports mode/manual shift mode, the tranny would jump from each of the 8 preset points to the other when you shift manually.

The article suggested that there would still be some changes made to the concept's exterior. What do you think will be altered, if anything? Here are those concept pictures for a reference if you are going to respond to this. May as well give my opinion:

Nothing worth changing here. It's a very good looking car from the front view. The only problem I see are those alloys, even though they fit the car we see here. The kind seen on the R34 GT-R would do well here too, however.

Nice rear end, but so simple! The spoiler is a bit high, but WOW!

i like that black car a lot- my type of nissan, but thats wishful thinking. "8-speed auto", thats interesting considering the new 7 series coming out within the year will have the worlds first production 6-speed automatic tranny. i have no idea where or why this 8-speed comes into play- is this a bike?

Pay attention to the last line....
"Beginning in 2002, the Skyline will be refined and sold through the North American Infiniti channel as the G35."
But this is the run of the mill Skyline. Now the Skyline and the GT-R are supposed to be seperated....so we still may get a Skyline but not a GT-R.

Or the GT-R may still be a Skyline. The R34 sedans and R34 GT-R were very different, but they shared the model name nontheless. Even if they seperate the names, that article mentioned the design teams from Europe and the U.S. along with Japan working on an international exterior. The article you gave, MotoRex, says nothing about the GT-R, for or against its chances of coming to the U.S.

R35 is WRONG!!!!!
the Skyline that is out now here is the V35
V35V35V35V35V35V35V35V35V35V35V35V35V35V35
The only reason another Skyline would be R35 is IF they decide to use a RB series motor on the *35 but most likely even the next GTr will be a V35.

V35 is referring to only the sedan; no one really knows if the next GT-R will be based off the V35.

god, i REALLY HATE that lame black photoshopped fake R35. I looks like sh!t and it would be nice if people stopped posting it since there's no way in hell the car will look even remotely close to it. The new skyline looks far better, and I think the real R35 will be an awesome machine, as it appears Nissan has dropped the V8 idea and is going with the v6 turbo. (last I heard)

Hey, I think that black R35 looks pretty awesome! I'd drive that thing around in a second. In my opinion, Nissan should make the new GT-R appear just like that black one, but with a less dramatic spoiler.
Even if the new Skyline does look good, does that have anything to do with the R35? I think that they probably won't look anything alike. The GT-R and Skyline names are getting seperated, no?

sil240, who told you that is photoshopped? I seriously doubt that it is. I don't think that such reputable publications such as Car & Driver (Feb. 2001, p.28) would put a "photoshopped" picture in their magazine.
As far as what you last said, i've heard the same thing. Dropping the V8 idea for a twin-turbo version of the 3.5L V6 to the tune of 400HP. That sounds pretty good to me http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/images/icons/smile.gif
And from an earlier quote, no, the BMW will not have the first six speed tiptronic auto because the Nissan Gloria already has a CVT 6 speed tiptronic auto. The 8 speed version of this for the next gen GT-R is a rumor right now.

Sorry, it's 100% photoshopped. If you can't tell that within 5 seconds of looking at it, you really know nothing about digital imaging. I'm not trying to slam you, it's just the truth.

Sil240, would you mind explaining what indicators tell you that that image is photoshopped. I am not good at picking that out and I want to get an idea why it is photoshopped. I have been listening to people for months telling me its shopped, but I would like to hear how you can tell.

Its a photoshop job. "I don't think that such reputable publications such as Car & Driver (Feb. 2001, p.28) would put a "photoshopped" picture in their magazine." They and all magazines do it all the time. Remember they had a spy se4ction of the new 7 series a while ago (like a year ago), that car was nothing but an artist imagaination. Whatever. Its no strange fact that magazines do this all the time to spark interet and to simply have something to show. "would you mind explaining what indicators tell you that that image is photoshopped" Look at the windshield compared to the side windows. Big difference. Reflections on the side window look very artsy to say the least. The side view mirrors also look a little fake but may be real. Also, it doesnt have ANY ties to the other Nissan family members, something that Ghosn stressed heavily in his Revival Plan.

Let me clarify myself. I KNOW that the thing is a computerized image. I guess what I need to know from you is, were you implying that this is an amateur job by some nobody to hoax people. That's what I was assuming you meant, and i doubt that is what this pic is. Lets drop the photoshop thing cuz i don't think anyone is debating that it is computerized.

UM! Excuse me, but, the R35 pic is not a Rubbed over image(I do not like using program names as a metafor to design).
In fact that pic has been present for well over a year. It has been on Import shows
and paperbacks, along with autonews pamphlets, etc..
AND Nissan WAS thinking of putting in a V8 within the nose(thinking).
The post from Dj Elektrique would be correct inline with Nissan thinking.
IT would not be an R35 if it was packed with the V series engine.
So, I would conclude all of us are correct on the same and different points..

buddy, I hate to be the one to tell you, but the above picture is not the real R35 GT-R. It is a japanese rumor mag fabrication.
This IS the real skyline V35 -----v
http://auto.ascii24.com/auto24/issue/2001/0618/npr_kt0618_21_03.jpg
and nobody outside of Nissan has seen the real new R35 GT-R (no longer called skyline). Well, if you say that it COULDN'T be called the R35 if it had a turbo V6, then okay: just call it the "new GT-R". Whatever floats your boat man. Besides, Nissan can call it whatever they want, whether it's an inline six or vee six.
In answer to the question farther above, the obvious reasons why I see it as a fabricated picture are that the headlights look incredibly fake, the reflections don't look right on any of the surfaces, the front grill looks absolutely hand drawn, and the thing just looks plain bad. Nissan has better people in design than that! Come on!
