I just saw a GMC ad and it said that Dodge Ram owners would get $1000 cash or cash back(something like that) if they bought the GMC Sierra or whatever the full size GMC truck is called.

Do you guys think Nissan should do the samething for the Altima? Should they give money to former Camry and Accord owners or for those who trade it in.

Maybe not the first year but maybe the 2nd or something. What do you guys think?

Maybe for the old left over Altima's, not the new ones...I predict The new ones will sell faster than they can build them...

speaking of marketing, I found this piece of news.

"Whereas the Camry and Accord are the two best-selling cars in America, with annual sales of about 400,000 vehicles each, Altima sales peaked in 1994 at 163,138 vehicles, and last year Nissan sold about 136,000 Altimas. Nissan's goal is to boost sales of the new Altima to about 190,000 a year, and the company is expanding capacity at the Smyrna, Tenn., factory that builds the car. Nissan has told dealers it will mount one of its largest advertising and marketing campaigns ever in the U.S. to launch the redesigned car this fall."

looks like they know what needs to be done.

hard to believe that the campaign will be larger than the 2000 Maxima

remember? the billboards, the teasers of the lights, then the wicked commercials...

Yeah I read that article too. I wonder what they plan to do it should be something clever like VW or the New Q commercials.

The current Nissan commercials are very good (Has anyone seen the new Maxima one where the guy watches the sunset while stopped...Then punches it,catches up to the sun setting and watches the sunset again?? Very cool! Best Nissan commercial ive seen lately since the Pathfinders playing Polo!). I would like to see a mention of reliabilty along with performance in future commercials though.

One constraint: they are targeting profitability more than market share. That's why the target is just 190,000 (only 40,000 over last year). In the same time, they predicts canibalization of maxima sales from 120,000 to just 80,000 by the new altima. So the total projected maxima + altima sales is 270,000, same as before.
My estimate is that they will sell it maybe a bit over $1,000 over last year's, and at the same time eliminate rebates. That will translate to base trim of $16.5K and S at $18K, SL at $20K. SE, I'm not sure, but probably $22K.

I like that! Lets add safety in their too.
But seriously Nissan needs to start showing off ALL of what they got. Performance alone isn't going to do it. Thats is insignificant to what Reliability, Fuel Efficiency and Safety can do for a company. Even Mitsubishi is touting the safety which they don't have. I think this is the reason why Toyota and Honda surpassed Nissan. They were brainwashing people on how reliable and safe their cars were while Nissan was just focusing on Performance that Needs to change SHOW IT ALL!!! People will say Honda and Toyota are reliable and they may be but that is because Toyota and Honda told them so. They have no way of proving Nissan is really second rate they are all very close in manufacturing. If Nissan can make Infinitis more reliable then Acuras let alone Lexuses in some cases their is no dobt they can do the same for the Nissan brand. What they can do for Infiniti just speakes great amounts of what they are capable of.

And about Infiniti, they need to stop hiding what they got too. At the NY AutoShow Lexus had about 50 awards from JD Power on display! We all know that Infiniti has been right up there with them for many years. Infiniti may want to follow in BMW's footsteps but they forget one important advantage they have over them THEY'RE RELIABLE thats why BMW never mentions this because they're not. Not to mention Infiniti has a better dealer service then them too. Infiniti needs to talk about they're dealerships and soon! Once they are about to finish revamping dealerships I want to see ads showing them off. SHOW WHAT YOU GOT NISSAN DON'T HIDE IT ANYMORE!

There is another Maxima add that I really like a lot, and that is the one in which it looks as though there is a sand storm comming your way, and then you see the lights of the Maxima comming your way, and then the car just flies by.
I think it does a great job of showing who's the daddy of all performance sedans (in that price range anyway...)

I think everyone knows that a Nissan vehicle is a performance vehicle, I also agree with the fact that they must also mention that Nissan = reliability.

How about this...

Some Nissan dealers are saying the 2002 altimas might be out as soon as end of june. Is that possible? I want to be the first ones on the lot to buy one. I own a 1994 altima and was very close to buying a 2001 maxima. I WANT this car!! Any info availble would be appreciated. Make mine in SILVER!!

It would probably be a good thing for the Altima to go on sale in June since the new Camry begins production in early July and is supposed to go on sale in September.

I really enjoy also the choice of music for those ads.

It's not too often that you hear Stone Temple Pilot's Wicked Garden. I also like the fact that they chose to air Stevie Ray Vaughan's version of Voodoo Chile ...
