This is the deal.....

I am getting a car within the next couple of weeks....a month at the most...
I am basically deciding between Acura 3.2TL and I30.
Even though my "heart" tells me to get an I30, my head...my logical side tells me to get a TL.
There are a few legitimate reasons. I30 has higher ownership cost(lower resale value), there are rumors of significant change in the very near future(refreshed styling, 3.5L engine, RWD...etc) ...and there is also a report that I30 will be discontinued after year 2003....only 2 YEARS from now...

I AM LITERALLY TORN APART....i really like the way I30 looks and the way it drives. It just feels RIGHT.

However, TL is....a probably a better value and better deal overall. I know it is basically a cousin of an Accord and all that........jeez...i am babbling now.....

anyways....help me...convince me to buy an INFINITI I30

THANKS!!!

The 10 reasons why you should get an I30 or I30t:
1)More aggresive look

2)Better handling (much better in I30t)

3)17'inch wheels (standard on t and optional on norm.)

4)Dealers are nice and help out anyway they can

5)Space: Motor Trend gave it the best rating in space and comfort over the TL and ES and Aurora just to mention.

6)Stereo: The Bose stereo is great and is standard

7)Navigation system: The I30 has a cool James bond like pop-up Nav system that comes up from the top of the dash. It also has better visibility than the TL because of its high location which brings it closer to the eyes. The controls are on the stereo cluster so its not like you have to reach to move the picture around. It also has the BirdView feature which really makes using the system easier in finding your destination.

8)Warranty. Infiniti has one of the best warrantys in the business. It is the best of the luxury carmakers. Only Kia has a better one (and the companies that have the same plan as Kia).

9)Ergonomics: Both vehicles were praised for there ergonomics but now the I30 has a great looking sterring wheel with controls on it.

10)Help the sales of Infiniti! Acura has sold plenty of TLs. Dont be a follower, be an individual and stand out from the crowd (eventhough I dont see a ton of new TLs around here).

the I30 has a smoother engine, high quality leather inside, and several luxury touches. the backseat of the I30 is like a limo in terms of space, more than the TL. also, back to the engine: the VQ engine, when you accelerate, has a hint of attitude that you're gonna find in a BMW too.

also, take a look at the outside, doesn't the front end of the I30 get your attention considerably more than the TL? the I30 they say is a dressed up Maxima, but go look at the TL and you'll see Accord in those headlights.

I think the I30 will last you a long time, and that you won't get bored with it.

Everything depends on you. It's a car for YOU. YOU will need to live with it every day. So, it's purely YOUR choice.

Now, after taking the responsibility off my shoulders, I can concentrate on the advice itself http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/images/icons/grin.gif http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/images/icons/grin.gif http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/images/icons/grin.gif

1) Why should you care about 3.5 and RWD now ??? Do you have a 1.1 gigaherz processor in your computer ??? You just can't always have the latest and greatest! Will 3.5 I30 in someone else's garage ruin YOUR enjoyment of YOUR 3.0 I30 (that is IMHO pretty much enough anyway, and the gas is going to become even more expensive http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/images/icons/wink.gif) ???
2) TL might be a slightly better deal, but it is not MUCH better deal. Even though it has lower sticker price, dealers don't give discounts on it; you might be necessary to wait several weeks for delivery just to pay sticker price or even above (depending on the area you live in). With Infiniti, you will be able to get a good discount upfront.
3) Now, comparing the cars themselves, TL is no more a glorified Accordion than I30 is a glorified Maxima. They are both fine cars, but every has its own image. I30 (and Infiniti as a whole) is IMHO more exclusive since not everyone has them. I30t is sportier and has a more attractive body (don't know about the interior; I haven't driven I30 myself, but I liked 2000 Maxima SE more than TL); I guess, TL has a better ride quality. More people will find the word Acura better than the word Infiniti, but there will be some people who will find the other way.
4) Head versus Heart.
I believe that people should follow their heart if what the heart says is "approved" by the head http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/images/icons/wink.gif It means that if the heart is ready to make an obviously inferior choice, the head should interfere. Otherwise, if the objects of your choice are pretty close in quality and characteristics (and both TL and I30 are fine autos), follow your heart!

Whatever choice you make, I hope will you enjoy either exclusivity and excitement of the I30 you lust after, or higher resale value and popularity of your TL (but in this case don't feel sad when seeing I30 on the road, like when you meet again that supermodel you left for the daughter of millionaire http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/images/icons/grin.gif).

by the way, get the new midnight blue color if you get the I30. I saw one today at a dealer, and whoo, it looked nice.

Hmmmm, tough choice, my heart would say go with I30 if it were up to me. I see way too many of those Acura's on the streets and I cant stand it. The TL is a nice car, but the I30 is more unique. You dont see many I30's out there! The Acura can be more fun to drive if you like playing with it's manumatic transmission. But, on the other hand, where in our crowded urban streets, would you actually get to play with it?? Besides, most of those transmissions (Acura's included) are too slow to react to your inputs to truly be useful. Besides, the Acura has cheesy leather seats. The ones in the Infiniti are much better! If resale value were your only concern than by all means go with the Acura. It is a fine automobile, but in my opinion doesnt have much more to offer over the Infiniti. But if style and uniqueness (is that a word?) were tops on your list than by all means go with the Infiniti. It's only real drawbacks are it's resale value and lack of a manual tranny. I think your heart would be much better off in the Infiniti if that's what it's telling you.

On another note, if it really were up to me, I wouldnt buy either! Instead, I would buy a 2000 Maxima SE fully loaded WITH a 5spd. That way, I end up with a car that is much more entertaining to drive, and save myself a whole bunch of money!
