Toyota, Honda, Mazda and Subaru support contingency programs for Sport Car Club of Ameriac's (SCCA) Solo2 competition. SCCA's Street Touring class is arguably one of the hottest venues for import competition where I would think Nissan would want their products DRIVEN. What's up with that?

From what I'v read from Nissan's press releases, they sponsored a bunch of cars in last year's (1999) SCCA events.
Have you tried contacting Nissan Motorsports?

Well I dont know how much they sponsered this guy but I know a guy here in Tennessee who drove in the One Lap Of America. Nissan "gave" him an Altima to race. Its the first car I ever saw with NO VIN number so it couldnt be titled. But from what my friends tell me some Nissan place gave it to him or maybe Nissan USA Im not totaly sure. Nice car tho. Altima SE with bunches of custom performance parts and even 2 stage nitrous setup.

Noel,
Thanks for the tip.
I'd gotten a copy of Nissan's program for the beginning of the '99 season and learned it was strictly focused on SCCA road racing. While many would consider the SCCA sanctioned road racing venue as grass roots I think Nissan's missing a significant segment of the market (Street Touring AutoXers)... at least they are obvious amongst their competitors by their absence. http://www.scca.org/amateur/prosolo2/index.html

Interesting, I've a couple motorsports friends, former sr20de owners, who had talked about running a G-20 and SE-R in One Lap... I wonder if they were planning to get Nissan sponsorship throug other than the "published" process?

I would have never thought of an Altima for racing but you never know. It looked pretty good. I would like to see a sr20de run in the one lap. I know I would love to do it but my poor baby is an automatic which sucks hind titty. But having a rare auto classic se-r is pretty cool at times. I would think for its class the sr20de cars would hold their own cause they all use low tech ways of getting power. None of this expensive stuff to break and mess up just good old displacement and touque. I dont know which car I would recomend Im sorta biased and would say a classic possibly a 91 cause it was the first. And to many the best handling and fastest. It would just depend on the driver but I would say take a 2 door Im not much of a sedan fan for racing.
Call your local dealership tho they may be willing to help sponser a car if it gets their name out. I would say you would have to not be a rookie tho. Who knows maybe they would give ya the hook up for parts http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum//images/icons/grin.gif

Yeah, the Altima would not be the first Nissan model I'd think of in a competitive situation. Of course, I bet that neither the Sentra nor the Maxima would come to mind when the public at large thinks of motorsports. I'll keep you posted when I learn more about Sheening and Kit's plans.
Yes, my firm enjoy's dealership sponsorship, Courtesy for the parts and Dublin for the service but I was just wondering why Nissan was missing amongst the other large Asian manufacturers as contingency sponsors of National Solo2.

Altima is the CHOICE when racing, why ? ONLY Nissan left in US that has independent rear suspension and its FULLY adjustable. Its not a bad car, in a 5spd SE the 00 really moves. U can do cams, header, exhaust, ECU, flywheel, clutch, just about everything that the SR20 has U can almost get for the KA24. Its aftermarket is not as vast but its not as bad as lets say a 00 Celica GTS. With NOS the car really would go fast, but I dunno why would U run NOS on that car on the track, it would run out of NOS in no time and it is also in consistant cause of all the HP hitting all at once. Turbo would be the way to go. I am planing on building up a Nissan DRAG car in the future with the help of Nissan. My engine choice- VH45DE. It will be a RWD Nissan platform that NO one ever thought about racing.
