It does not surpirse me that Accord sales are slipping. That car seems so boring. I don't even know what to think of it. Its image is completely null and void. I can see that the Maxima is a sedan with a performance edge. And Ford seems to be trying to do something with safety. But what's an Accord? Honda's Camry? (Oh, that helps.)

I know their big van is selling really well, in fact they are building a new plant in Alabama just to increase the production and some future SUV.
On the sedan front, Accord=Camry=Toyonda Camcord http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum//images/icons/grin.gif

Well at the price they were selling those TL's it does not surprise me one bit how Honda is making soo much money. In fact Were it not for the new TL i think Acura would be in big trouble. the only thing keeping it alive would be the Integra. And what sold those TL's? Well the Image of a luxury car at the price is reason enough for a middle class person to jump at the opportunity.

while Accord sales have slowed down.
Do you think Honda will continue to make strides in the US market? Will a full size truck and new CR-V keep it going?

Maybe, there was a temporary shortage of lemmings http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum//images/icons/wink.gif Even in our area where Accords usually fly off the dealer's lots they have special financing on 4-cyls now.
As for the prospectives, Honda tries to diversify their products; right now most of their eggs are in A&C basket whether Toyota has much more model areas covered now. Acura MD-X will be a hit; I don't know about next RL.
I'd expect a slowdown in A&C expansion, so that the growth will be from other models, such as Odissey and CR-V.

Nissan may not be the only company facing hurdles these days as even high flying Honda is running into some issues. Honda said it's total sales for the quarter topped $15 billion, surpassing the same quarter last year by 1%, but that annual sale fell 2.1% to $57.4 billion. Operating income fell 20% to $856 million for the quarter and 22% to $4 billion for the year. Especially contributing to the problem is the strong yen to dollar exchange rate.
However Honda has made significant improvement in sales with North America boasting a 9.5% increase to 1.3 million units with the new Acura TL and Odyssey while Accord sales have slowed down.
Do you think Honda will continue to make strides in the US market? Will a full size truck and new CR-V keep it going?

Poligraf's theory is interesting. It basically suggests the sedan, as we know it, is dying. It's also interesting to note that Honda is sticking to a two sedan line-up. Toyota has a 4-sedan one. Nissan three.

A&C = Accord & Civic http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/images/icons/wink.gif
Out of 1.3 millions of cars about 400,000 are Accords; more than 300,000 are Civics.
As for sedans, they are not dying. They are just loosing profit margins because of the price war. Honda still is living well because of the huge volume and a small variety (they have less than 10 various trim levels for the Accord Sedan). However, Ford is able to sell Focuses and Tauruses much cheaper because of the huge profits it makes on the Exploders, Expeditions and pickups. It can afford using sedans just for volume, brand loyalty and CAFE compliance.
Also, other manufacturers make good products. And I mean not only Maxima that is still a niche product (higher end one) but Ford Taurus that is much-much improved (and I see a lot of them on the road).

Yeah, I am a Honda fan but theres now way that can be true. That means between the other 600,000 car on the road, They hafta be all the other sedans where Toyota sells about 450,000 a year (leaving 150,000 cars left) and Ford sells at least 300,000 Tauri. I can believe the 400k and 300k #s, but I think the 1.3 Million number should be higher.
Thats because there are more than 1.3million cars on the road http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/images/icons/rolleyes.gif
