The problem with the Type S is the tranny IMHO. That auto stick just suck if you are wanting performance, its fun to play with for a while but after that probaly never used again. If I was in that market I would be looking at an Audi S4, Maxima of course, I30, M3 possibly. Dont remember the prices of alot of the higher end cars anymore.

A friend of mine is in the market for a $30k plus car. Of course there was the prerequsite choices we looked at; the Audi A6, BMW 528i, I30, and of course what is considered the current best deal in "entry luxury"; the Acura 3.2TL.
When we got to the Acura dealer, I remembered that the 3.2CL coupe had just recently came out and was immediately drawn to it by the styling. The interior is nice except for the slabs of fake wood that look bad espeically in black trim where it looks like magic marker drawn grain. The gauges are revered with silver/titanium tint with sporty italicized fonts (a la Maxima SE).
Then there's the 3.2CL Type-S looks especially tempting for ~$31k with 260 bhp, 5-spd auto, and 0-60 time of less than 7 seconds.
If Nissan can come out with the new Z with over 260 bhp and rear wheel drive for $30k, it will slay the Type-S. But for now I think the Type-S is quite a good deal.

The 3.2CL Type-S has power, and was goin to be named the Type-R, the only reason it wasn't is because of the tranny. I know an SSS is kinda stupid, but its better than a normal automatic.

I agree about the auto-stick trans in the CL...it's just a gimmick unless you have total control over gear changes. I drove the Type-S though and it's a blast even without a manual trans! How about a Type-R with a manual and AWD? Makes my '98 Maxima SE seem kinda lame... I was hoping for a Type-S version of the TL sedan until I attended a marketing study for the upcoming XVL/G35 Infiniti...260 HP, rear wheel drive, style & luxury. Now that's worth waiting for.

I figured it was Type S cause it was a grown up type of car. One step up from a Type R, maybe in numbers but not in performance thats for sure.
