Okay, here's a topic that sure to envoke some talk. What's your opinion on speeding? Is it okay to drive faster than the posted speed limit. Obviously if you get tagged, you'll be paying up but if you don't do count yourself lucky?

By the way, my two cents is that if the weather (no rain or snow), road (smooth and no potholes), and traffic conditions (very little cars) are comfortable than I'd feel okay going 10-15 miles above.

Wah? Only 15mph over? You wimp! :P

I'm usually 20mph over, but then again, the roads here in Phoenix are nice and straight, and only when it's like 2am in the morning.

Seriously, I'm will only go a little less than 10mph over due to the amount of photo radar vans that roam about. With less than 10mph over, they won't take the picks.

However, I'm usually 20mph or higher over on turns. Just because I can... I dive right into the turn, brake hard/late, and power drift the car out of the turns.... Boy, I love a good handling FR platform... http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/images/icons/grin.gif

on a 100km/h zone i go at 120 comfortably, 140 to pass cars, 150-160 rarely to pass a bunch of cars...
in a 60 (km) zone i do 80 and if no cars 90
in a 30 zone i do 50-60
this is all in good weather
my stops are american all the time
and i speed up on yellow lights
any questions?
PS my turns are very fast (and wide whenever no cars around)

usually, ill drive as fast as the other cars are driving. if im the first at a light and am leading the pack, i keep it at about 10 mph over the limit (hey, i just got my licence abotu 7 months ago and i dont intend on getting tagged this early.) there is this are where i go EXACTLY speed limit though. it's the are near my home. it's my revenge against drivers out there. ever since i was about 7 i rode my bike around my neighborhood durning the summer. you see, my house is near a big freeway that is very congested at rush hour (bout 5-7 pm) it's 680 if anyone here knows it. people usually get off the freeway right before my neighborhood and take the street parallel to 680 to avoid traffic. THEY DRIVE LIKE CRAZY MOFOS. The speed limit is 35 mph and ive seen mofos doing damn near 50. IVE NEARLY BEEN KILLED OVER 50 TIMES TRYING TO CROSS THAT F*CKING STREET. now that i can drive... muahahahaha.... im here to take my revenge. i drive anywhere from 30-35 mph around my 'hood. there's also this big curve before the freeway entrance that has a speed limit of 25 mph.. damn, when i get there and slow down to EXACTLY 25, i can watch all the cars line up behind me. the curve is after where i get off, but sometimes when im in a pissy mood, ill just go all the way to the curve for the hell of it to piss everyone off. revenge is sweet....

Depends what type of road and traffic situations. Generally, I will do no more than 5 over in residential areas, and up to about 15-20 over on the highway with few cars around. I don't think the highway poses too much risk, where a secondary road could have animals, pedestrians, bicyclists, blind driveways, and whatever.

the only place i never go over the speed limit is in a school zone. anywhere else i usually go the same speed as everyone else. generally 5-10 above the posted speed depending on the road. the interstate speed here is 70 but i usually do only 75 due to the fact i've seen many people get pulled over for doing 80, sometimes less. but i know where the cops hide so i know when i can speed up http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/images/icons/grin.gif

around my neighborhood, i usually go the speed limit due to little kids running around, and all the old people might get upset

Guess Im an old fart then. I rarely go more than maybe 2 over. I just dont like speeding. On the way to the se-r convention i was doing 75 or 80 to follow everyone but didnt like it one bit. I find you get there just as fast and with better gas milage on the highway buy keeping it at a steady moderate pace. with my crappy auto se-r 72 is right at 3000rpm so thats a pretty good cruising speed for me. and i average about 33 mpg. during that romp at 90+ trying to catch everyone i got like 28mpg.

Just made a nice run up I-40 in NC the other day. Speed limit is 70MPH, traffic was moving around 80+. Myself and several others kicked it up a notch to about 85. There was a small stretch that I slowed down to about 65 so I could kick her up to 120. It was a beautiful day with very light traffic, and I only hit 120 for a sec or two before slowing right back down. I passed several highway patrol cars without any problems. From what I have seen, NC drivers seem to like speed(all those Nascar fans). I would swear that my J actually quieted down above 80 compared to 70. Smooth as silk. It does help that I just put on a new set of Michelin Pilot XGT's. They ride great.

As my uncle (highway patrolman) puts it: speed doesn't kill; it's the difference in speed that kills. What I hate is seeing cars flying past other cars, especially when they're passing on the right (doubles the danger). I think most drivers would benefit from visiting some of the accident scenes my uncle has had to deal with.

Anyway, I enjoy speeding on private roads, but speeding around town on public roads is just too dangerous. Statistics don't lie and your insurance company knows it. There's a reason they charge speeders higher premiums. As for me, low insurance payments sure are nice. http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/images/icons/wink.gif

What? u did 120 MPH, cruising past hiway patrols and u did not get pulled over?
I like speeding, but i would never do more than 90-95 during the day. Other than that ive taken my car to 120 3 times only.

Yes I speed.
What teenager doesn't (except females!) when they get their license?

It has cost me though. Can anybody in Canada relate? Myself I live in B.C.

My first ticket, I was doing 111KM/h in a 50KM zone, passing somebody, and the cop was at the top of the hill (I was Stupid!)
The ticket was originaly for $426! But he lowered it to $345....WOW. What a joke...
But I did deserve it.

Second one was a joke...
Going to school on a 4 lane Highway, I swear with the flow of traffic, doing 73 or 76 in a 50 Zone and the laser radar trap caught me and one other.
that was $176.
Total so far... = $521

That was the end of May 99...
So in late late August right before I head back to school, I get a letter in the mail, suspending my license for 3 months. After writting a letter (with the consent of my parents) they lowered it to one and a half months. When I went to get my licnese back, there was a fee, of $118 to get it back!

Total now, 521 + 118 = $639

Now a year passes and no speeding tickets whatsoever! (One year on June the 2nd)
But on May 28th of this year, I got a letter about my driver premium points, I had 6 points, 3 for each ticket, and that was $300. My god, what am I up to now? 639 + 300 = $939!

Almost $1000 gone for speeding. And none of those tickets were in my 240...

Do I still speed? yes, but I drive responsibly fast...

Highly populated areas with children I do lower than the speed limit, If I ever hit a child....well I will NEVER hit a child so I don't know how I would feel.
Main roads in my town I do not speed on either, maybe 5-10 KM's over. Mainly with the flow.

But Highways, and Freeways, is where I let loose. Speedlimit there is 80KM/h and I quite often do 110-140KM/s.

Some nights at 1am I'd do 180 KM/h for as far as I could! Thats around 115MP/H.

Thats my ranting for now...

I also live in canada, but in Quebec. If you did all that in Quebec, u would have not gotten soo many tickets! here drivers are crazy and fast and cops are more lenient.
But going 111 in a 50 zone, if a cop here caught you, you would have lost liscence!
