What cars do you consider ugly (or visually offencive for politically correct people out there http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/images/icons/wink.gif)
The topic was initiated by seeing a new Pontiac Aztec at the dealer's lot when passing by. It was so ugly that I'd rename it to Yukster http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/images/icons/grin.gif

Well, the Pontiac Aztec is the current ugliest car sold, as far as I'm concerned. But then, I think everything from Pontiac is pretty nasty. The Aztec just takes the cake! I think my next choice would be the Toyota Echo. It's ugly inside and out! There are others, but those are my top two picks.

Oh man, that Toyota Echo--VERY UGLY. I would never buy that thing or be seen driving or sitting in it. And that previous generation Ford tauraus and current escort, and Ford Contour and Ford Explorer and Ford Ranger with Flare sides . . . Yuck!
In spite of what people here think, I think the 1st gen Q45 was ugly, too. Also just about any Korean car qualifies as ugly in my opinion. I don't remember what the Pontiac Aztec looks like. Saw some picks while checking out auto shows. I remember that it did not impress me.
Toyota echo ugly very much so, it looks like a snapping turtle and if you touch it, it might bite you and the Prius looks like the mother that laid the egg. If thats the future design of Toyota cars we can assure ourselves the sales will start to tumble.
I also think the Chevy Blazer is very ugly it looks like it's going to throw up. Chevy Lumina, Pontiac Sunfire, Chevy Cavalier, well let me just say almost all of GM's products.
Oh yeah! Just about every car from the 80's and early 90's

Ford Aerostar
Pontiac Aztek
Toyota Echo
Honda Insight
Nissan Sentra (95-99)
but by far the worst: Chrysler PT Cruiser
that is a monstruous behemothian waste of space and gas!
and i also add, it's not pleasing to the eye

Aztek is definitely something that they shouldn't have made, its sooooo butt ugly.
Toyota Echo looks like a metro on steroids. And theres some guy up here in Fresno that thinks hes the bomb driving around with his Echo sporting daytons and chrome... bLiNg bLiNg...
The concorde, 300M, and Intrepid all kinda look like fish on wheels... thats just my opinion =)

Yeah, I'm definitely on the bandwagon with this one: Echo:UGLY UGLY UGLY. Aztek:UGLY UGLY.
But, I think most of the other offerings of Ponitiac in the past have been VERY aggressive and good looking. Its hard to find a better sculpted car than a good Trans Am, bar none. It is a bit overdone at times, but it gets the message across loud and clear that "I AM A FAST CAR!"
And the Chrysler PT Cruiser isn't ugly, its a stroke of genius! I predict these cars will be more than a passing fad...they are cheap, economical to own, roomy, and good looking. This is the next cult car of the new millenium. Notice how it shares a resemblence to the Prolwer?
More ugly cars? Most any of the shoeboxes from the late seventies and eighties. BORING! And, yes, I have to admit that the first-gen Q fell off the ugly tree and hit a few branches coming down.....The latest Q, on the other hand, looks marvelously stately and impressive, despite the 'lack of power' compared to the earlier one and the upcoming model. But based on looks alone, I would go with the current Q!

saab,
I think the pt cruiser is a joke, have you ever seen so many people get so excited over a low hp mini van. D/C is one of the largest car companies out there, and they cant produce enough? I think this is a marketing tool to jack up the price.
The Z3 "hunchback" is also pretty ugly.

Mitsu Montero. Nasty.
Mercedes M-class: Hideous.
Toyota Echo: see above and multiply by 29.
Toyota Avalon: Ghastly.
Aztek: Someone please tell the head of Pontiac design that he/shee needs to consider a new line of work.

The Aztec gets my vote! It looks like they took whatever parts they found on the Pontiac factory floor, unused storage racks and dumpsters, then bolted/welded them all together. It's definitely a head turner - I had to look twice to believe I saw So Much Ugly in one place, at one time...
A runner-up is the new Chevy Impala/Malibu/Monte Carlo - what use to be a fairly clean design now has the overall bloated look of an automotive beer belly. Perhaps this is a reflection of its NASCAR racing tradition.

Ugly new cars.
1. Pontiac Aztec (Pontiac is joking right?)
2. Toyota Echo and Prius (revival of Tercel?)
3. Toyota Celica (Rear end is so ugly, and front end looks so-so.)
4. Ford Focus Sedan or coupe (Only hatchback looks nice)
5. New Dodge Stratus (too curvy. It looks like someone beat up its front fascia :P)
6. Hyundai Tiburon (It just looks weird. Previous model looks way better)
7. Kia Sportage
8. Kia Spectra
9. VW Cabrio (I just don't like this S#$*)
10. Toyota 4 Runner (what's up with its bumper?)
I'll add some more if I spot any other ugly car.

damn, now here's a good topic!
these cars hurt my eyes:
ford excursion. it's a shame for mankind, and to mother nature. go buy a mack truck. really.
lincoln navigator. see above.
toyota echo. nothing special, really.
chevy impala. round taillights suck.
Chyrsler LH-series. Car and Driver's editors have said that the LHS has "drop-dead grogeous looks." Somebody needs to kick them in the head. Go look how well-proportioned a BMW 740IL is. That's beauty.
Acura RL. This came from the company that made the Legend, which was the best looking Japanese sedan EVER. shame. A TL that needs a diet.
Pontiac Bonneville. The front is silly.
seriously. Back end is ok.
Pontiac Aztec. dont get me started.
By the way, the audi A6 does look ok, but its kinda got an annoying tail end. I dont get why people are so frantic about Audi. The A4 is fairly bland too. Their best looking sedan, the A8, reminds me of the
early 90s designs from Japan. (like the 3rd gen maxima and legend). shame it's gonna be rounded up for the next model.
Also, has anybody seen the new Olds Aurora?
holy crap, i never would think that Olds would make a car that looked so cool.

Are you kidding me??? The first time I saw one of those (new or old) I thought there was a UFO in my rear view mirror. Not very cool looking, it would make a great looking spaceship. http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/images/icons/grin.gif
I have to disagree on the most part.
Ford Excursion isn't really a looker but it's not that bad either. It's a big SUV and it tells it loud and clear. The sad thing is that it gets Fuel economy almost as good as an Xterra I really wish Nissan would do something about that.
Lincoln Navigator still takes the cake as the ultimate Luxury SUV. Theres a reason why so many Limo services carry it. I don't think it really looks that bad either. I'm hoping Nissans full Size SUV will be along those lines.
The BMW 740 will leave the Chrysler LHS in the dust perfomance wise, but at least LHS has a modern look to it. BMW 740 is dated and needs a redesign fast that goes for the Audi A8 which looks like they did nothing for 2000. The Spy photos i've seen of the BMW 740 looks promising though.
The A6 and TT are the best cars that Audi has the rest look boring or dated.
Pontiac Bonneville is one cool sedan all around. The redesign was a great improvement so is it's image. It looks like what Maxima may be leaning towards to be like in the future. But that name has to be changed.
Oldsmobile has one of the ugliest looking line-up in the Automotive industry. The one that makes me sick the most is that Bravada what an ugly SUV. All their cars make me sick physically and mentaly, I can't stand those no grill front ends they have no expression at all reminds me of a frog. They have decent back ends but overall they look overly rounded. They were ugly in the past and their ugly now.

Hammerman, it's funny to say it looks the Aurora looks like a UFO, but to my eyes, it's clean and it's different. It's not horribly overdone like the Bonneville.
And yes, the Bonneville is a cool car on the inside, my friend has one, and it has mad amounts of torque. The best thing about it is that it's comfortable inside. I'll agree that the Olds SUV will blow in terms of styling.
But then again, i hate SUVs. People buy them for exceedingly dumb reasons, like saftey and
they like the view of the road. sheesh. a honda accord for crying out loud is just as safe as an SUV in a crash. It also has a low dash and no blind spot.
But that's not really why i hate them. They are a waste of gas, a waste of steel, a waste
of metal. It just goes to show that ppl are wanting to be pampered in every possible way rather than settling for less. I say that we
take all SUVs, ALL SUVs, and give them to 3rd world nations just so they can at least have a shack to live in.
And just before i go, while it's ok to push the limits in styling, i say that we shouldnt go over the edge. When i see a LHS behind me as I drive, i wonder if that grille will expand and swallow my car up. It's a blowfish, not a car.
The intrepid has a gorgeous front end, but
the rear end shape just ruins it.

UGLY CARS
CHEVY IMPALA: hideous rear & color of tale light
CHEVY Monte Carlo: bold idea but that's not how the future cars would look like!
VOLVO S80: Ugly front & Uglier Rear & Ugliest wheel.
TOYOTA AVALON: too much zig-zag theme going on with ugly grill.
PONTIAC Bonneville: wow it CAN get this much ugly.
(Aztek would look much better if it wasn't that grey plasticky cheap looking bumpers, make it a body color, it's Better to pay little more money than making all the car shoppers puke)
HYUNDAI Elantra(current one): Ugly tali light and too much curves.
HYUNDAI Elantra(new one): who are those designers who comes up with this hideous cars?
(but I don't think TIBURON is ugly!!^^)
hmm... http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/images/icons/frown.gif

oh well. i guess the Aurora is a mixed bag. As for SUVs, all the SUVs from Ford just look cruddy. their bodies are so big, the wheels are so small, the the tires so beefed. it looks cartoonish almost. I like how the BMW X5 has those huge (not to mention sharp) 17-18 inch alloys. However, the X5 doesnt look anything great, just a raised 540i wagon i say.
by the way, doesn't the new CL annoy anybody out there? the rear end has improved, sure, but the front is vanilla. I can't stand the fact that honda just made the headlights bigger in attempting to make it look more aggressive. you have to do something extra to it, like with the 2000 Maxima.
one last thing - Lexus was airing IS300 commercials a while back. what i found odd was that a guy in the ad showed a picture of a HONDA lawn mower to his boss.
New CL is another pathetic attempt by Hondas 15 year troubled Luxury Mark. So is the new MDX they all look like they belong in the Honda line-up. Even Infiniti isn't that bad.
Their cars are just plain boring no hint of luxury at all besides a navigavition system which will only hold up for short amount of time. And the RL is a sorry excuse for a flagship.

I like the TL, heck that looks nice. The front end still needs something because it's too accord like. But nothing from acura has been worthy of much attention since the demise of the early 90s legend. that car
was cool to look at. (for me at least)
The MDX looks like a piece of junk. It's obese and smiling; truly something that
should not be on the face of an SUV. It makes a QX4 look so much better. I saw one today, i think the front looks cool, and the alloys give it a unique apperance.
The TL is ok but gets boring after a few seconds of looking at it. It doesn't compare to I30 in looks though.
About the MDX your right, its pretty much just another boring Acura/Honda product and I really don't like the interior. QX4s is really nicer and the side panels and integrated fog lights help alot for 2001. But MDX gots QX4 beat in interior room which is why it will sell much more. Probably. Nissans really trying though. I give them alot of respect for that.

Everyone's got a right to their own opinion, but I can't believe anyone would think the BMW X5 an ugly vehicle! It's a beauty and a beast all rolled into one.
I'm a huge BMW fan. I love the sportiness, quality, style, and overall image of their entire line of cars. BMW couldn't have designed a better truck (SAV--whatever). It has recognizable BMW styling (a good thing) and so much more. While it has the purposeful ruggedness of a serious truck, it's design is perfectly suited to cruise the city streets on your way to that five star restaurant everyone's been raving about.
The Mercedez Benz M55 on the other hand looks like a minivan modified for driving on dirt roads. It's no more stylish than an AWD Mazda MPV.

Is it just me, or do the newer Toyota sedans have too high of a roofline?
The 00 Avalon and the 01 LS430 look like bigger versions of the Echo. Even the GS looks kinda chunky, and not very sleek (especially after the B-pillar). The only cars that seem to have a low-slung appearance are the Celica and Camry, and seeing how the Camry is being redesigned, I suspect it too will become a glorified Little Tikes Cozy Coupe. It could be due to the sharper edges that the Toyota stylists are using though.

Everyone does have a right to their own opinion. I, too, honestly like BMW's. However, that X5 is ugly. I am not the only one I know who feels the same way. I do agree on the M55. The first time I saw it, I thought it was a mini-minivan by Mercedes.

I'm a huge BMW fan. I love the sportiness, quality, style, and overall image of their entire line of cars. BMW couldn't have designed a better truck (SAV--whatever). It has recognizable BMW styling (a good thing) and so much more. While it has the purposeful ruggedness of a serious truck, it's design is perfectly suited to cruise the city streets on your way to that five star restaurant everyone's been raving about.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
The X5 is nice, but for a clean sheet design, there's no cargo space! 16 CUBIC FEET? Some cars hold just as much in the trunks! The Maxima even has 15.1 cubic feet of space. On the other hand, it does drive rather well (as a BMW should), so I guess that overshadows the lack of room. It looks pretty good with the Sport Package too. Even so, I'd much rather prefer a 540i wagon (but it has no AWD). Actually, I think I'll keep my '01 QX4 - 38 cubic feet with the seats up, and a whopping 85 with them down (just 6 cubic feet less than a Land Cruiser!) http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/images/icons/smile.gif

Yep, don't forget about the poor build quality too, and its 4wd system isn't that great either.

Have you guys seen the newly redesigned Rav4?? I for one am not a big toyota fan, but I was impressed. Although I know it will never out 4wheel my Nissan, all I can say, is that it is one nice looking 4WD station wagon. Something to buy the wife to take the kids groccery shopping.

That new RAV4 has the headlights of a IS300. and the IS300 has the headlights of a Honda, so i think that Toyota ran out of some creativity. But it's an improvement over the current version, blah to that.
well since we came on the topic of BMWs and Merecedes...what do you folks think of the new M3 and the new C-class?
the M3 looks just killer, but i want to see 5-spoke star alloys on it. As for the new C-class, i hated the front at first but now, very slowly, i'm starting to brood over it. it looks really cool.

I like the Mercedes, I actually think the BMW is loosing it's touch. It's not an ugly car, but it certainly lacks the captavating looks of the car it replaced.

about the ugly Porsche SUV, i think it ruins their heritage. they're known only for sports cars, i think they're making a mistake making an SUV. leave that to VW. Porsche making an SUV is almost as absurd as Rolls Royce or Bentley making one. i also don't really think BMW should've made that SUV, but i think they did a good job designing it
Thats just Toyotas new design theme kinda of like Fords New Edge, but instead of making the cars look better it seems like Toyotas out to make them look uglier not mention make em tip over easier too.

It could be due to the sharper edges that the Toyota stylists are using though.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

you're kidding me. this is the MOST captivating M3 I've ever seen. It looks way better than the 1987 M3, which is second in line for best looks. Go look at the interior photos on cars.com and tell me that doesn't even get your attention. That interior makes the Max SE look like...well...a poser.
Also, have you seen the new 7 series? when i saw the first photo of it in developement, it looked like a bloated 323i. If you saw that photo in Automotive Magazine last month, BMW threw out the old plan, and kept the current shape of the current car (to an extent) and simply modernized the styling. I think they are doing an excellent job creating cars that are modern and good looking.
i'm curious to see what the new 5 will look like, as well as the upcoming 6 series.

What's up with the current Honda Accord 4-doors, they tried to make it look like the 93 Accords. What really makes me laugh is the pink part of the tail lights, is that Honda's strategy to bring in the female buyers? http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/images/icons/rolleyes.gif LOL

hey, this accord looks good, if bland. I like how they went back to the old-style design, but it's typical honda. would you want to buy that previous generation that had a ugly rear?
