Has anyone else seen the 2001 Hyundai Elantra
I saw a picture of the front end in the september issue of Motortrend. With all the complaints about Maximas looks(which I like http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/images/icons/smile.gif) I never thought anyone would copy it so much. It looks so much like Maxima it's scary really really scary! Overall it looks like Maxima then the bottom half has the air intake just like Sentra and the head light arrangement is just like the current Q45. Nissan could almost sue for taking so many design themes from them.

But seriously though has anyone else noticed how much Hyundai is copying off of Nissan. That new car thats coming out called XG(or something like that) looks like and I30 mixed with the current Q45 at the front and looks like a Bently at the back. Plus Kia has named there new car Optima and is suppose to be a Camry Accord fighter just like the New Altima will be.

It looks like Nissan has an admirer.

Makes sense. Nissan's become the comeback story of the early millenium. Look at where they were two years ago (acres of cars lined up at the port) -- look at where they are today (under the industry avg for incetives), and where they're going (new Z/new Q). The Koreans are simply watching a good business model and adapting it to fit their needs. Don't be surprised if you see a new Korean luxury marque created in the next five years. A Korean "Infiniti,"no doubt.

Hyundai now sell more cars than Mazda, that's scary!!! http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/images/icons/rolleyes.gif

Yeah but you have to understand, Mazdas are boring! Aside from the Protoge the rest of the Mazda line up looks like crap.. Ok so maybe I lied, I like the Millenia.

It also doesnt surprise me to see the Koreans copying Nissan. They too are trying to reinvent themselves to appeal to more buyers. And Nissan's been doing a pretty good job. Have you guys seen the new Kia Rio?? It's a Korean car I actually like.

I can't believe how fast Hyundai is expanding the line-up of Kia and Hyundai I'm afraid they might pass Nissan in number of cars and sales too. But Kia and Hyundais cars overlap.

I am not surprise Korean product's sales increase year after year. Hyundai's quality has significantly increase since the original Accent econobox. Elantra, Sonata and Tiburon are pretty decent cars with lots of features for their price. If they priced Santa Fe at right price, it could be a very good value for money.

Oh yeah. If anyone has any pics of the cars please post em.

Even the side view has some Maxima influence.

ok, now that thing looks really really quirky. the Maxima's front grille looks much much better. that front grille stuff was started by chrysler, and i say the maxima has done a good job to blend it in, in a subtle fashion.

what's with those taillights? it looks like they blended the new sentra with the side profile and the tailend of a new Q45. very odd to me. by the way, the body roll is insane in that picture.

Our new Lantra's here look different to that, the body and everything is the same, but the headlights are a quad design, underneath the same rectangular cover.

either way, looking at that evokes the normal "what the hell" response from within. I can't stand they're producing the XG300. what a ripoff, since when did Nissan deserve that?

I guess you're expecting it to look exactly like the Maxima. Which of course would be plagiarism. The arrangement says it all. Look at the circle fog lamps, the blackout grill, the grill disconected from the head lights, the trying to be aggressive look.

You have to be blind not to see any resemblence at all.

there is some nissan flavor in it, but i dont see a really substantial similarity between it and the maxima. that maxima pic looks yummy.

JonCarson

Okay, I looked.
It doesn't look anything like the Maxima.

So the fog lights are round and in the same general area on the car....big deal. Oh, wait a sec. I've seen Pontiacs and Saturns with those same fog lights. The **************s!

The grill shape is size is substantially different, and it has vertical bars rather than horizontal--like the Maxima. The lights are considerably different. The air damn is totally different. The lines of the car are all different. There are no great similarities in the size or proportions of the two cars.

You guys need to relax. Hyundai isn't trying to trick anyone into mistaking their cars for Nissans.

Alright man youre getting waay ahead of yourself. I still agree with Carsonjon. Im actually not blind and although the aggresiveness is there, the look isnt. Its all opinion. Ive been in one too many arguments on this board, a total of 2, and I dont want to get into another one.

Let's not think of "arguments" as "fights". If we think "debate" when posting opinions, it may help to keep things more productive.

I was actually one of the people that didnt see similarities between the Q and the Sonata. And no, its not that I like to disagree with you, its that my eyes are seeing what your's are. However, I completely agree with you that the XG300, or whatever it is, is a complete rip-off of the current Q45. The hood, the lights, the grille shape/size, the profile is pretty simialr too.

imitation is the highest form of flattery...

in any case i must input my comment:
the elantra's lights arch to the up and side like the maxima's but thats just about it...

plus, if you havent noticed, many cars now look alike.

the mags of the elantra look like the ones on the maxima GLE as well, but by the way, the GLE mags look exacly like the Mercedes E-class (not sure which year) mags as well.

the XG's lights look like BMW lights

it is very difficult to design a car that is both "different" and "conventionnal"
if it's different, people say it's ugly
if its conventionnal people say its a copy, or it's boring...

people make fun of the maxima rear saying it looks like a neon rear

everyone has an opinion...

i 'can' go on but i already made my point...

I don't understand why you don't see anything in common about the Maxima and the New Elantra. Either you're not seeing what I'm seeing (which many other people have) or you like to disagree with me.

If you guys can see similarities between a Hyndai Sonata and the New Q45 then why not this which I would believe more so.

Are you so sure about that, take a look at the XG300 then say that again.

Th front of I30, Q and Max with the rear of a Bently. Very original. Another reason Infiniti got rid of the Waterfall grill, not to be associated with this.

hah, who would want to copy a failed Q ?!?
mind you, the Q was itself a copy of mercedes...
i guess this design will trickle down to Daewoo in about 5 years!

I guess you probably didn't know this but Daewoo has a car called the Chairman. It is based on the previous generation Mercedes S series which was developed with help from Mercedes.

It has always amazed me when someone says two cars look alike. I see no similarity between the Elantra and the Maxima. I have also never seem even the slightest resemblence between the Mercedes S Class and the Lexus LS400.

I guess maybe I see the differences more than any slight similarities.
