Here's the new Japanese-market Corolla.
http://www.geocities.com/busybeetoys/scoop/25-corolla-sedan-b.jpg http://www.geocities.com/busybeetoys/scoop/25-corolla-sedan_small.jpg

hmmm....To me, it looks like they threw an Avalon and an Echo into a blender and this is what they came up with.

But it's a Toyota so people will buy it. http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/images/icons/tongue.gif

looks pretty fruity like the echo. i think i'd rather buy a new sentra over that thing. that front end is terrible

where the heck has japan's styling ability gone? ever since the early 90s its been on a downhill. that thing there does not look attractive at all.

I heard that they did the styling in Europe.

I think it looks like Toyota has ripped off the Renault Scenic for the front, and having seen photo's of the back, it looks exactly like the Holden Astra.
At least it looks better than the current bugeyed model.

I could be wrong, but isn't the new corolla RWD?

JonCarson

I highly doubt that the Corolla pictured is RWD. I bet you've heard about the Concept Levin/Trueno Corolla that as it appeared on Busybeetoys.com.

I don't think the car looks bad. It looks OK, although not great. IMHO, It looks better than the new civic.

Yeah, looks much better than the new Civic. I wonder when they're going to bring this one over the the United States. If they did, you could say goodbye to Nissan.

People will buy any car/vehicle. Except maybe the Aztek, havent seen any of them around NJ. Eventhough you think the Q is horrible looking, people will buy it.

What are you talking about? The majority of the poeple on FA and BusyBee have shown complete disgust in it, except maybe you. I understand thats not the whole market but it shows that not many like it out of a group. Next thing we know you're going to be saying that the current Camry is the best thing ever and that will speel an end to Nissan. Pshh..please.

i don't think people are going completely bonkers over the Echo and it has similar styling to that corolla. the current US corolla is better suited to fight the sentra and civic. if that car came to the states, i think the civic would steal more of its sales

The Japan market Corolla is nice. But it is by no means something that will cause the "end of Nissan." Sentra sales from everything I've read are very strong. Nissan needs to keep the pressure on to sell the Sentra and eat at Corolla's and Civic's market share to put themselves in a stronger position for when this Corolla hits our shores.

Not exactly.... Many of you have compared this to the echo, which I admit looks very similar. Although the Echo isnt the hottest selling car on the market, I still see quite a lot of them on the road. Which to say the least, is a lot more than the new Sentra...

I think the car looks really nice. It's not going to take the auto world by storm, but it's a long waited improvement over the current and last generations Corolla which are very small and too basic in design.

Imo, the rear and front styling are nice. It doesn't scream "look at me!" but not sedate either. The side profile reminds me of the Neon which I don't like, but it still look quite nice. I wish there are more pics, especially the interior. Btw, where did u get the pic???

About the Echo,
I doubt ppl buy the car because of the exterior design. I think ppl buy it for its super roomy, uniquely styled , and convenience-packed cabin. I read the Echo forum on edmunds.com and the car seems to have strong followers. It's probably a love-it or hate-it car, and that's a refreshingly good thing for the sub-$15,000 car segment (which is usually filled with "just-your-basic" transportations).

I love the new generation Corolla. Based on looks and its reputation I would definitely buy one--and I just might! It projects a very strong, solid image through its design in the same way the Merc C Class projects the same characteristics.

The interior is very elegant. Very, very nice for a car in that price range. With the NAV and auto climate control, the interior almost look like a luxury car.

Tis new Japanese-soon-to-US Carolla chages the rules in the category. This is obviously one of the best Toyota designs in a long time. The question is, how can Sentra compete with this? The advantage the Sentra has is performance and it seems like a "Younger" car. Altho' the current styling is a bit too conservative. Hopefully, Nissan execs have this Carolla on their radar and they're taking the necessary steps to make the '02 Sentra combat-ready. If they are not, someone who knows Nissan execs should tell them to.

I thought most, if not all, of the people posting here were "car" people. Do you mean to tell me if you saw this new Corolla from the back you would actually think it was an Astra? And from the front you'd say it was a Scenic?

But I do agree with another poster who says this is one of Toyota's best designs.

It is one of their best designs its just heavily derived from other designs like most Toyota products. My first car was a 1976 Toyota pickup. My second and third favorite behind my Alfa and 240sx(R.I.P.)was a 1967 Corona it was so slow but I loved it it was relaxing.I just counted and my family has owned around a dozen Toyota's that started with my Dad's 1972 pickup that just would not die.I have no doubt that Toyota makes great cars it's just that they will not be my brand because I prefer more originality. Two examples the aforementioned Corolla will be sold in markets that have not seen either the Scenic or the Astra and they have sold a Corolla here in South America that was a blatant copy of a Neon which they have seen little over here. It's a fine car and alot better than a Neon but was definately made to look similar. You can question my carnguyness all you want.I would just like to see more bolder designs by Toyota.I still won't buy them well I guess because I like to drive something different from the masses. Will the Corolla sell?Oh yes but I don't think that the people who will buy them are really car people anyway. Are Camry owners car people?98% are probably not.

Highly unlikely. The GS's gauges are electrofluorescent and automatically adjust to lighting conditions. The Corolla's gauges are a bit more similar to the Echo's - they are white in the daytime (a la Maxima SE), but at night, they have blue backlighting (like the Echo).

BusyBee says this is the Corolla the US is getting:

http://www.geocities.com/busybeetoys/scoop/s26-corolla.jpg

If so, I think the Sentra has nothing to worry about (seeing as how the Civic is already just...well...you know).

Another Toyota with a Germanic look. This time the target is Volkswagen's Jetta as pointed out by Busybee.
It will still probably sell well because obviously many Americans don't care if their car looks similar to another as long as the quality is good. And judging from this picture the car should have a very solid look and feel to it which means mission accomplished.

I'd be surprised if the US got this one and not the Corolla on page one of this thread. The Corolla on page one is selling extremely well in Japan and I'd be surprised if the Toyota people ignored that success and instead tried to repeat it on these shores.

The white license plate is another clue. If a car company actually released this photo, either a name or year would be on the plate.

Plus I have gone to the busy bee site and I haven't found this car.

hiwayman17
11-24-2000, 10:55 AM
And another thing...The Corolla pic on the first page has a much longer wheelbase evidenced by comparing the back doors of these two different cars. If the green car is the US Corolla, Toyota is sending us the smaller car?? That makes no sense since Americans are taller than average Asians.

No way!
Plus i agree that that is probably the model that will come out in the US, Toyota never usually sells a corolla identical to the JDM version anywhere else in the world, it's usually modified before being exported, historically that's the case.

The emblem is fine, Maybe you guys don't understand that in Japan, many cars don't wear the Emblem of the manufacturer, some nameplates such as Vista, Laurel, Bluebird, etc actually have their own emblems, that are different from the manufacturer's one.

TE-7X Corollas and earlier cars exported to the US had Corolla-specific emblems, but who can tell what emblem that is.

The problem with busybodys is that their photos sometimes have questionable origins. Some months ago they had a picture of the "next-gen" corolla, but really it was a photo of the '99/98 Corolla with Hyundai Accent front merged on it. There have been other weird Honda photos on their site that you may have seen.

Plus, picture of the green car says that it's a CORONA, not a Corolla, and the car looks too small to be a Corona. I personally hope that it is neither one.
