Initially I was impressed, but after seeing the Cadillac Cien, this car is ugly!!! I'm sure it seems like a nice car in person, but it's sorta BLAND.

Crossfire is not a concept. It goes into production in Germany this year. It will be built by Karmann and will feature 40% Mercedes parts including the 3.2 V6.

Crossfire isn't exactly in the same projected "class" as the Caddy Cien.

Is anyone else here feel a little disappointed with the engine choice for this car?

The Daimler 3.2 V6 is a good engine, don't get me wrong...but the original concept had 275 horsepower (albeit supercharged)...this one has 215. Why'd they show us a stunning looking, and (potentially) stunning performing car, and then cut its legs out from under it with 60 less horses under the hood??? I mean, 60 horsepower is a big difference in any car, but its effect to a car that 3000lbs or less is nothing short of total transformation.

Original performance could have been at least competitive with the 350Z, RX8, and others of this ilk...Now it seems to have traded its real player status for that of a poseur; its market segment seems to be the classic wannabes: Accord Coupe V6 , Solara V6, etc, etc....pseudo sporty cars instead of the real deal...its a cryin' shame...

Seem like just another american made piece of ****.

You consider a car based on the Mercedes SLK with a Mercedes engine built in Germany by Karmann to be American? I think there might be a job for you in the US Federal goverment!

Is it still going 2 be RWD and around the same price as the concept? 26K??

Assuming, based on Mercedes involvement and Mercedes engine and German build quality, I'd buy the Crossfire over just about any Mercedes based on styling. The Crossfire is unique, while the C, E and S are pretty much three sizes of the same car. And while the SLK is original, it's getting old.

Even in it's aging state the SLK would easily outsell a similarly priced Crossfire for a number of reasons.

I’m actually disappointed in how this car turned out. When first seeing the concept a couple years back, I remember how much I liked it. It was derivative as hell but very dynamic and impressive for a Chrysler. Now it was still a work in progress and they obviously weren’t going to keep the overhangs that short but...what happened?

The car had an aggressive stance and as a drivable concept there was performance to match.
Now it’s like they’ve hobbled it on the performance and design sides. I understand styling it to look more alike the rest of their line but this design "refinement" leaves alot to be desired.

A couple Crossfire concept pics:

Freeman (Audi TT) Thomas supposedly had nothing to do with the (Eric Stoddard designed) concept even though he was then working for Chrysler.

I think the front of the car is hella tight, but the ass looks horrible. Looks like they kinda just forgot about it.

I'm Sorry, but the Crossfire is freaking ugly. Chrysler is loosing it great styling touch.

Style is subjective. I think the 350Z is ugly beyond belief.

Maximaboy...what is your problem? Dwelling on the negative? I have opinions...deal with it.

Why is that you can't seem to register the fact that I love the Sentra and Maxima?

How was my weekend? Nearly had a heart attack. Don't know where you are, but here in upstate/western NY we had a weekend of WIND. Downtown Rochester had clocked windspeeds of 72 miles per hour.

The complex I live in doesn't have many trees near the parking areas but I was worried about siding and shingles coming off the building and hitting the RSX. So I parked at the far end (upwind) of the building. Well, at some point during Saturday night, I woke up when I felt the earth shake. I looked outside and saw nothing because the power went out and all the street lights/parking lot lights were out. I got dressed and went outside and couldn't believe what had happened. The telephone pole with transformed from across the street had snapped 3 feet from the base and hit the ground. The transformer went into the ground about 3 feet and the end of the pole was only about 8 feet from the RSX.

Oh, I definitely think Chrysler had some great styling.

When Cirrus/Stratus came out they were far more original and beautiful and less boring than Accord, Camry, Altima...

The current large Chryslers--Intrepid, Concorde--are far better looking than the Taurus, Impala, etc.

If Chrysler'd drop in a tweaked version of their 3.5L engine from the 300M, giving it around 280hp or more, then I think they'd have a winner...I'm speculating that production in Germany makes it easier to just grab some local engines rather than import them from America?

Hudson

It's more than just "local engines" since the car is based on a Mercedes-Benz chassis as well.

I see...

So what are the parts used by the car from Chrsler's 60%? Bits and peices? Knobs, wheels, itnteriors and the like? I'm really curious to know about this car...

Maybe they will make some kind of performance derivative of this car...get some AMG in house help or something...it already is going to take the 3.2L, why not just drop in the 349 hp supercharged engine from the AMG SLK?...now that would be fun... images/icons/grin.gif

Alas, I suppose its all just wishful thinking on my part.....(sigh) images/icons/frown.gif

Not really Chrysler's styling though since they borrowed it from Bugatti http://www2.kettering.edu/~bart3449/atlantic-side.jpg Wish the Crossfire had a rear end more like this.
