They cut 35,000 workers and Escort, Continental, Villagers and Cougar.

Yeah, I heard that today in the radio. It's very sad indeed that so many people are going to lose their jobs. I heard that three cars from the Ford's line up was going to be discontinue, but didn't know which one was it.

I won't miss the first 3, but the Cougar is not such a bad looking vehicle.

Those 4 vehicles sucked!!! In their hey days, they were awesome though, I really dont care too much for those vehicles, the Cougar was boring at best, connie was outdated, Villager, well, was never really about anything, and little Escort, the 1997 redesign is what did it in, then the ugly ass zx2 nailed it so really no big surprise here

Neither of the four cuts are really surprising. We already knew of the Escort (thanks to the Focus) and Villager (Nissan ending production of the current generation), and the other two were no stretch of the imagination...

Sounds like this deal seals Mercury's fate as the next Plymouth/Oldsmobile. Two of it's models are now gone, the Cougar being the only model it had that couldn't be found as a piece o' $hit Ford. All it has left are the Sable, Grand Marquis, and Mountaineer. I gotta feelin' that the Maurader is it's farewell car, like the Prowler was for Plymouth.

ITs a shame about Mercury. My First job was working as Mercury's Interactive producer which eventually led way to Noel and I making FreshAlloy.com.. Oh well.. I like FA much better.

The Escort was scheduled to end production next year as was the Cougar. The Continental and Villager were scheduled to end this year. Not a huge change.
Mercury has a new Villager in the works and Ford keeps claiming that two other vehicles are planned, but I'm not sure if that includes the Marauder or not.

Yeah, I believe the media is guilty of sensationalizing yet once again. All this had been in Ford's plans for some time now. No surprise.
