I've just saw the new Mazda 6 Sedan coming out for 2003 on Mazda.com, and I have to say it LOOKS awsome, althought it only produce 219HP and 202Ib of torque. I think it would be a nice alternative for people that still dislike the maxima's "look". Best of all that car will still be made in Japan(for a short time atleast), Well just want to know if any of you guys are interest in that car just much as i do.

P.S. 5 speed Man. is availabe for this car images/icons/smile.gif

Let me know what you guys think if this car.

Its ok, still not as good as altima 3.5se. styling is typical mazda, pulled back thin headlights, kind of gives it a sly look. did you know that sporty 5-spd. is a hatch back? kinda weird

Overall I like the look. You mention the HP ratings, but do you know the displacement of the engine? Also, any potential interior shots?

thanks,

I sat in all the examples of the Mazda 6 at the Detroit auto show and it is a nice car. It is roomy with more backseat headroom than the Altima. Styling inside and out is cohesive, which I don't think that can be said about the Altima.

May I ask where you got the information on this? If this car shares the same engine with Taurus, then that would really suck. images/icons/mad.gif

Reminds me of one of my favourite sport sedans, The Eunos 500 which they discontinued in 1997. Seems like the formula is the same though.

The two engines offered in the Mazda 6 will be the new Mazda/Ford "I4" engine, a 2.3L DOHC four-cylinder, or the Ford Duratec 3.0L DOHC V6. There will be a diesel engine offered in some countries as well.

It's a 3.0 based on the Ford Duratec in the Taurus. Mazda worked on it a bit to bring it up to par.

Edit: D'oh! Beaten by 1 minute!

Correct me if I wrong, but I believe the V6 engine found inside the Ford Taurus is made by Yamaha. It is also the same V6 use inside the Escape/Tribute and also the MPV for 2002 models.

Well...it's not quite a Maxima...I mean the new Max's have 255 hp and 240 torque...plus a 6 spd manual.

But I will give it this...it looks cool...from the back way to similar to the RX8...but I like the dual exhaust. The front looks nice too. If it is lighter than the Max...by alot...then it could contend.

Question...what the price on this car...the V6 model?????????

You are absolutly right, this car doesn't have the performance of a Maxima, but it does have a much sporty interior and exterior design. From my point of view, eventhough performance is a main issue but its not always #1 when looking for a car. It depends on the overall feel of "Pleasure" when driving the car, or what you would call "FUN FACTOR" To me Maxima is still Top 3 Sport Sedan on my list, next to TL-S, IS300, and Mazda 6. I see Maxima still to have more of "Family" design in mind then "Fun Factor" in mind.

Conclusion, I love Maxima's Engine(and 6 speed man. Transmission), but dislike the style(espically the rear). Mazda 6 just gives me a overall feel of driving a sport car. BTW, I am 20 years old, so that supports my point of view. images/icons/smile.gif

P.S. Price on this car is to be from 18,000~26,000, actuall price not release yet.

Got it from a preview here: http://www.edmunds.com/reviews/preview/articles/47610/article.html

"The 60-degree V6, though it's based on Ford's Duratec 3.0-liter, uses the addition of the S-VT system to produce 219 horsepower compared with the 200 hp normally generated by this motor." The Duratec 3.0L is the V6 in the Taurus. I don't think it was made by Yamaha, that's the SHO engine.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. The same Ford Duratec engine is also used in the Jaguar X-Type and S-Type, with some modifications by Jaguar engineers.

Hey I really like the looks of the hatchback - kinda an Integra look from the side. But correct me if I'm wrong (and I know ya will) but I heard that the hatchback has no current plans to come to USA. We are only slated to get the sedan from what I've been hearing. Here are the sedan pics:

It's aiight, but I like the Altima way better than 6 sedan. Still so much better-looking than Camry/Accord!

Picky, picky.

First, the US Mazda 6 will NOT be made in Japan, it will be made in Flat Rock, MI, where the current 626 is produced. THe old MX6 and Probes were made there, too.

Also, the Duratec is a highly rated engine used worldwide, not just in Tauri. images/icons/rolleyes.gif

I'd roll in one of those!! images/icons/tongue.gif Very good Mazda! Now if they could only get that blue oval monkey off their back..

I agree that the Maxima's interior does not connotate sportiness...Mazda though is trying to make all of their models sporty...so perhaps Nissan should look into either making a Maxima Sport model(dont say SE...maybe the Anniversary Edition...but it lacked the 255HP and the 6spd)...but then maybe it would tread to closely on the new 350Z images/icons/shocked.gif Overall...good job Mazda...or should I say Ford...lol. images/icons/grin.gif jk

That's depressing to hear they will be using the Flat Rock plant. That plant has produced some terrible cars in terms of reliability. Many reviews of the Probe, MX-6 and Cougar were all along the lines of 'this car produced in the Flat Rock plant is not screwed together quite right.'

But, to Mazda's credit, the MX-6 did for some reason, tend to have fewer problems than the Probe.

Having the right name on the hood seems to make a car more "reliable" to some.

Lots of GOOD Manufactures have RED guages such as, Saab, (Some Audi+VW), personally I like the red interior, easy on the eyes, and feels like you are in a ****pit of a jet fighter. Although Pontiac have red gauages and red instrument panels, they are designed very poorly and use VERY CHEAP Plastic materials.

Is it just me but doesn't it look like they
are taking alot of styling cues from the Al-
tima interior and just slightly modifying
them. I was studying the interior and it re-
minded me of my Altima. Exterior design is
nice. Anyone else agree?

And this car is a direct competitor with the
Altima not the Maxima. Mazda Millenia or 929 compares with the Maxima. By 2003, 2004 we should be seeing an all new Maxima and if
Nissan continues with this bigger and faster
trend, watch out!!! images/icons/tongue.gif

The Mazda 6's on display at the NAIAS showed examples of two styles of tail lamps. Some of the more "normal" ones had translucent red plastic and some where the clear plastic with plastic chrome. The red ones looked much better in my opinion.
