This is one of my favourite cars. I was so close to buying one but my dad wouldnt let me - he thought it was 'unsafe'. Anyone know about the safety standards of these cars? Or anything at all about them?

Yea I can tell you about it, it will never be able to be imported because it has never been crash tested in this country, so to legalize it, you need to do all the EPA and DOT certs. Or you can bring it in the country as a "display car" title, and can keep it in the country for one year, then it has to be shipped back to country of origin, or the car must be destroyed. Also the mileage limit is 2000 miles for the entire year. Funny... someone I really care about, that is also their favorite car. Go figure? images/icons/tongue.gif

Well it's an interesting looking car. I have to say I much prefer a Nissan Maxima SE (2001) to it but oh well. I guess one of the safty problems would be all that glass, cause if you hit something thats a lot of glass to fly around. But it doesn't look bad, maybe get a different color. I'm biased cause Maxima is just the car to have in my opinion. I might get one this summer if things work out.

Yup Full Throttle you said it! That's exactly why my dad wouldnt let me get it years ago. BEcause of the glass he said it would be unsafe - i wanted to buy it but he said no way! Ha.

Yeah, illegal for importation due to the gull wing doors. DOT deemed the car illegal for that reason. The reasoning behind it is in the event of a rollover accident, it's almost impossible to extract the occupants. Can't get the door open.
There is a huge car club for that car in Japan...
I have been fortunate to have seen the car in person in HK. Pretty neat little small car...

You like this car too huh? I love it. I test drove it and although it was a bit slow, it was still fun to drive. The one I was going to get was red and it was a 94 I think. The sound system was entirely Japanese so the frequencies were messed up but I wanted the car so bad. I love the gull wing doors. These cars sell for only around $8000US
