What's the best stock system you've heard on any brand car?

For me it was my 95 Infiniti J30. The stock Bose 6 speaker was awesome. The sound was clean and the bass really tight and focused. I don't know if it was the components or the acoustics of the interior. My 99 Maxima SE-Ltd's Bose system doesn't sound as quite good compared to it.

The Caddy STS comes with a 425 watt 8 speaker setup by Bose. That must sound good.

The stock system on a 2000 Altima with the Premium AUdio package (120 watt 6 speaker am/fm/cassette/cd) is decent but has no base whatsoever. There are 2 20-watt 4 inch speakers in the back, 2 20-watt 4 inch speakers in the doors and 2 20-watt tweets on the doors as well. Lets just say that for "premium" they should have included a sub to complement in the base area. Don't get me wrong, its an excellent sounding system for classical, vocal, jazz but no punch in techno or rock.

While i'm at it: what does an 8-speaker system imply? does it mean it has tweeters in the back doors or full range speakers in the back doors? Also, why stop at 8, if you pay that much for a big system like that, why not include a 9th (a sub) to enhance the LFE (low frequency effects)?

Coments?

I agree the premium sound system on the Altima is not as "premium" as it could be. The bass response is poor and the sounds starts distorting in the higher volume range.

I think Car and Driver had a review of stock systems a few months back; the BMW 740il Harman Kardon, the Caddilac STS Bose, and the Lexus LS400 Nakamichi. The Bose came in 3rd, the Harman 2nd, and the Nakamichi came in first.

Also the new 2002 Q45 is supposed to have an even better system than the Cadillac. I noticed that Bose systems tend to use a lot of equalization and signal processing tricks. I think some like the Nak tend to rely on very high quality components and heavy analysis of the interior acoustics.

i know the bose system in my 97 i30t isnt the greatest in the world, but its still pretty nice sounding. i was actually very suprised to hear the quality form the premium system (non-bose) in my new maxima. when i crank it up, i can tell its not up there with the bose, but its a helluva a lot better than i expected it to be.

Actually, the best factory sound system that you can get is in the Volvo C70 T5 Convertible. The speakers were developed by Dynaudio of Denmark, and Alpine Electronics supplied the Dolby Pro-Logic Surround unit, power amplifier, and radio. Dynaudio of Denmark is in a different league when compared to Bose, Nakamichi, or Harmon/Kardon. For example, one 3-way System X360 for one door costs $1,200 dollars. The Volvo C70 T5 Convertible is a 700 watt system with 13 total speakers. In each door it has an 8-inch bass and a 4-inch mid register speaker. On each side of the dashboard there is a 1-inch tweeter. In the center of the dashboard there is one 5-inch coaxial speaker for the Dolby Pro-Logic Surround Sound setup. In the back of the car on each side there is 6.5-inch bass speaker and a 1-inch tweeter. There are also two 9-inch subs in the back as well, which makes a total of 13 speakers. One Alpine amp is 4x100 for the speakers and the other 150x2 for two subs. I have heard this system in a dealer showroom and to say that it is simply amazing would be a gross understatement. For comparison, I have heard the Nakamichi systems in the 2000 Lexus LS400 and GS400 as well as the 1999 Mercedes E320 Bose System and the 1999 BMW 528i Harmon/Kardon System. None of these come close to the Alpine/Dynaudio Pro-Logic Volvo C70 package. If you ever get a chance, listen to one and you will be amazed to say the least.

Yes, Dynaudio does make very high end home theater speakers. In fact, they make one of the best the world has to offer. It is called "The Evidence", and it retails for $85,000 dollars a pair for 2 speakers. The total home theater package costs $102,800 dollars. The three best speaker systems you can buy are: Dynaudio "The Evidence", Wilson Audio's "WAAM", and Wilson Audio's "X-1 Grand SLAMM". The "WAAM" home theater speaker system costs $225,000 dollars. They only make 4 of these systems a year. 50 of them have been produced total. The "X-1 Grand SLAMM" pair of speakers retails for $83,000 dollars for 2 speakers. They have sold 400 pairs of those thus far. The Dynaudio, "The Evidence" are considered the best sounding speakers ever, they sell about 100 of them a year. I have never seen or heard any of them, but I am sure there is a reason that they are so expensive. The prices are insane actually, but I guess it's the price you pay for the absolute best.
