Poor reception

I have a 2001 Altima with an "In Glass" radio antenna.Although I never have have to worry about it breaking, I get really horrible radio reception.
I noticed the factory radio's reception wasnt that well, I dropped an Alpine7857 in it and if i go anywhere where there are alot of trees, I lose the signal.
The same stereo was fine in my former car.

Anyone else experience this?
Anything I can do about it?

Also, where is this "In glass" antenna?
Is it in the rear window and looks like the defogging strips?

Something that is cool to do is use a VW powered internal antenna. Sometimes VW stereos have the radio amplifier in them, so an external amp is needed. If you get one, it will fit right into the aftermarket antenna hole and can be tucked in your dash...no more losing signal! (testing was done inside a concrete garage with only the powered antenna, no external body antenna)
