I'm ready to replace my front speakers on my Altima 1998. Should I stay with component type?

Anyone recommend a good set of front speakers for the price around $150-200.00?

Eventually, I'll be adding a better reciever, ((I'm using the standard stock one with the GLE model))
rear speakers and maybe a subwoofer.

I believe crutchfield is having a clearance on older Infinity Kappa components & they are like $150 or so. Also try http://www.carmedia1.com & http://www.speedsound.com/caraudio.html they have cheap prices.

crutchfield has great customer service and all that, but their prices are steep. after going to a lot of car audio forums i found that people like thezeb (http://thezeb.com/) their prices kick butt, great selection and good service.

as far as speakers, if your looking to stay with factory size 6.5?, the new infinity kappa 60.3cs are sweet- $300 at crutchfield -->$185 at the zeb-- see what i'm talking about, but you're gonna need an amp. or you can cut larger holes and go bigger. if you don't want the expense of an amp the infinity reference would be better. there are other great brands like orion and whatever, guess it comes down to what you want, go to a stereo shop and see what they sound like.

I know that people might bash me here...but id go with rockford fosgate fanatic Q component set. for the reason that they are very very cheap on ebay (190) and they are as powerful as the infiniti kappa perfects for much less. I know because i have the kappa perfects in my front doors and the fanatic q's in the rear. sound quality isnt even noticeable between the two. People think i have kappa perfects all the way around.

The fanatic Q's are 140 at the zeb, so i wouldn't go to ebay. i remember one guy asked on another audio forum whether he should buy some mkII infintis off ebay and i remember that i had bought some mkII's in '94, here it is 2001 and this guys gonna pay someone $60 for some crappy speakers. also no warranties on ebay.

the kappas or perfects are about sound quality, you should go to a stereo outlet to test out which brands you like, but its cheaper to buy online. don't get hung up on this name brand thing, like mb quarts or whatever, all in the setup. just look at the sony xplod focus zx3, xplods aren't the best speaker out there but that system is sweet.

Do you have to buy speakers in pairs or can you buy a set of 4?

thats only a pair of midrange speakers. I was referring to a component set. which at the zeb is 230 for the 6.5" Plus i got free delivery on mine which is about another 10-20 dollars.

I can't stress enough how important it is that you listen to different speakers. Everyone's hearing is a little different and their idea of what is good sound can vary by quite a bit. Personally, I tend to stick with Boston Accoustic, A/D/S, and Diamond Audio, but there are a lot of great speakers available now and only you can decide which is best for you.
